Real Madrid v Malaga Preview

Sergio Ramos will be out for longer than expected following his nose injury in the Madrid Derby. With stand-in centre-back Nacho suspended, it falls to Jesus Vallejo to fill the void. Gareth Bale remains sidelined but Keylor Navas is back in training and may be rushed back into action here.

The visitors welcome back Recio from suspension and he’ll have the difficult job of keeping Isco under wraps. Meanwhile Diego Rolan has impressed recently and Real Madrid will need to limit his space. Los Boquerones are in fairly decent form, so Zinedine Zidane will need to safeguard against complacency here.

Real Madrid v Malaga Prediction

Los Blancos needed to feel the thrill of winning again and they got just that when thumping six past APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League. It’s hoped that Ronaldo and Benzema each bagging a brace will restore some confidence, as their La Liga form has been underwhelming so far.

Real Madrid have won 12 of their last 14 home matches against Malaga in all competitions. The visitors do not travel well and have been struggling to defend. This should be a routine three points for Real Madrid and a comfortable winning margin is predicted.

As mentioned on Tuesday, Luka Modric may be set to leave Real Madrid this summer. The 32 year-old midfielder appears to be coming to the end of his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, a spell which has brought him and the club a number of trophies.

Real Madrid have been criticised in many quarters for not improving on the side that was so successful last season. Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez were let go but no replacements came in. President Florentino Perez does not want to make the same mistake again.

Perez is prepared to spend big in order to get Los Blancos back to the level we are all used to. With Modric potentially leaving, Spanish publication Don Balon suggests that PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot has been identified as the Croatian’s replacement.

Reinforcements Needed

As we all know, the start to the season has not been brilliant. Real are 10 points off the pace in La Liga while sitting second in Champions League Group H after defeat against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

The addition of Adrien Rabiot to the squad would be a tremendous boost. The Frenchman is 10 years younger than Modric and he has been in outstanding form for PSG so far this season. Rabiot has featured in every Ligue 1 game so far this season, the only outfield player to do so for the side from Paris.

Rabiot’s strengths lie in his sublime control of the ball and his excellent passing skills. Though he is still very young, he looks so assured on the pitch and likes to control the game.

Tottenham attacking midfielder Dele Alli has also been linked with a move to the Bernabeu but it seems like Rabiot is the number one choice at the moment. We will have to wait for a few months to see whether or not this transfer happens.

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo loves breaking records so much that he has gone and broken a goal record that he held himself. By scoring against APOEL, he now holds a new record for the most Champions League goals in a calendar year.

If rumours of a potential exit from the Bernabeu are true, we may be betting on English Premier League side Manchester United re-signing the Portuguese star. That being said, he still seems to be committed to Real at the moment.

Zinedine Zidane’s men currently sit second in Group H and are comfortably through to the last 16 of the Champions League, with Borussia Dortmund and APOEL exiting the competition.

APOEL were never going to offer much of a test on Tuesday evening, with Los Blancos ending up 6-0 winners in Cyprus. Cristiano grabbed the fifth on the night, heading Marcelo’s cross into the net early into the second half.

Two Ahead Of His Previous Best

Even though the record had already gone, the superstar wasn’t happy with just going one ahead of his previous best as he went on to add his 18th Champions League goal of the season just five minutes later, as he fired into the net on the turn.

Ronaldo’s previous best in a year was 16, which came back in 2015. After a great run of 10 goals at the end of last season which lead to Los Blancos lifting the trophy, Ronaldo has done well in this years Group Stage, scoring 8 goals in 5 games.

To compare how impressive his new record is, Barcelona star Lionel Messi’s best Champions League goal record for a calendar year is 13, which he has achieved twice in 2016 and 2012.

Ronaldo has struggled a little bit in La Liga so far this season, having scored just 1 goal in 8 appearances, but hopefully he will be able to take his European form into domestic action soon.

Zidane

This season Real Madrid started magnificently. They won the European Super Cup and seemed invincible in the Spanish Primera. However, since the start of September, their form started dropping, and suddenly the only club to have won the Champions League two years in a row seems like a side lacking in motivation.

If the same thing happened to a gambler who was on a winning streak, but suddenly started losing money, he would probably consult some top notch reviews such as this Ladyluck review before heading out to Les jeux de casino to get his bank balance back in order.

We are not saying that Zidane should take this analogy literary and start reading reviews or going to casinos, but he should use it as an example to improve his squad and start doing reviews on the scouting reports of players such as these three here.

Harry Kane 24, Tottenham

We are sure that Real Madrid’s scouting network is fully aware of the talent Harry Kane possesses, especially as they have faced Tottenham in the Group stage of this year’s Champions League. It was even reported in some tabloids that Real Madrid’s president has already tabled an offer on Daniel Levy’s desk for the outstanding striker, an offer which the astute Tottenham chairman wasn’t impressed with.

The fact of the matter is that if Real Madrid really want to improve, they should bring in the best striker in the world right now. And for the best in the world you have to pay a world record price. This means that it is likely that if Kane moves to the Bernabeu he will make it as the most expensive player in history, eclipsing Neymar’s stratospheric transfer to PSG.

Dele Alli 21, Tottenham

Dele Alli is yet another Tottenham player for which the Los Blancos have expressed interest recently, and rightly so. He is the type of player for which only the sky is the limit and with the proper guidance and right attitude he can become the next Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

This fact hasn’t escaped  Real Madrid’s hierarchy and they are actively pursuing a transfer for the versatile attacking midfielder whose pace, technique and flair would definitely complement the likes of Ronaldo and Bale.

David de Gea 27, Manchester United

De Gea is still only 27, but he has already established himself as the best goalkeeper in the highly competitive English Premier League. He has amazing reflexes, great positioning and is good with the ball at his feet. On top of this he is Spanish and has said countless times how much he enjoyed his time when he was living in Madrid.

As with Kane and Alli, Real Madrid will have to pay a world record transfer for the goalkeeper if they want to see the Spanish goalie between the sticks at the Bernabeu, but this will surely be worth it as he will be a huge upgrade to Keylor Navas.

Zinedine Zidane

Though we are only part way through the season, rumours are already rife regarding what is going to happen in the next few transfer windows. Real Madrid have not had a great start to the 2017/18 campaign and it seems like there are a few players that could pay the price.

Reports are suggesting that Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane is planning to sell eight players in a mass clear out of the current squad. As we have mentioned over the last few days, Gareth Bale has been linked with Manchester United and this deal may in fact happen, as Bale is on the list of players Zizou wants to sell.

Zidane has been blamed for many of the poor results so far and it is obvious that he needs to change something in order to turn things around for the club, as Real are currently 10 points behind Barcelona in La Liga.

Eight Players Not In His Plans

Gareth Bale is the biggest name of those that have reportedly been deemed ‘surplus to requirements’ but some other first team players could exit the Santiago Bernabeu too.

Like Bale, Luka Modric arrived in Madrid from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and he has been at the club since 2012, winning many trophies in that time. Reports suggest that Modric is also one of the names that could leave in the summer, which would be a bit of a shock.

Goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has stepped into the first team recently but he is also on the list of potential sales. Marcos Llorente, Achraf Hakimi and Jesus Vallejo all look like they may be shown the door too.

Lucas Vazquez and Dani Ceballos are expected to be sent out on loan in January, but it remains to be seen whether or not they return to the club once those loans end.

Mauro Icardi has been linked with a summer transfer to Real Madrid. The Argentine forward has been prolific in front of goal for Inter, netting an impressive 13 goals in 15 appearances this season. He could be the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema and will reportedly make the switch from Milan to Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Former Milan forward turned sports commentator Daniele Massaro was today quoted in Marca;

“I can tell you today that Mauro Icardi will be a Real Madrid striker next year. His arrival will be at the expense of Benzema.”

Karim Benzema is a divisive character and it’s fair to say that opinion is split on the Frenchman among Madridistas. This is his ninth season at the club and his rate of scoring has suffered a sharp decline. In la Liga he scored 24 times in 24 matches in 2015-16 but could only manage 11 goals from 29 games last season. This year, he’s scored just once in 8 matches so far.

Out With The Old In With The New

Although he seems to have been around forever, Benzema only actually turns 30 next month, so still has a number of years ahead of him. Recently Zinedine Zidane has used the player as a scapegoat saying that Benzema needs to “offer more”. The Real Madrid hierarchy will be monitoring his goal return closely and could try to offload him while he’s young enough to lure a sizeable transfer fee.

Mauro Icardi is coming of age and finding his best form at 24. He joined the Nerazzurri from Sampdoria four years ago and has scored 91 goals for the club. On Sunday night his brace gave Inter an important win and it’s clear he’s the type of player that can turn a game on his own. With Benzema misfiring, it could be a case of out with the old, in with the new this summer.

APOEL Nicosia v Real Madrid

APOEL Nicosia v Real Madrid is an important game for Los Blancos. A win will guarantee their participation in the Champions League knockout phase, regardless of results elsewhere. If Borussia Dortmund fail to beat Tottenham Hotspur, then a draw will be enough to qualify.

APOEL Nicosia v Real Madrid Preview

APOEL Nicosia were always likely to get the wooden spoon in this ‘group of death’. The Cypriot side has actually done Real Madrid a favour by twice drawing with Borussia Dortmund. It shows that they cannot be taken lightly and will not simply roll over, meaning Real Madrid can take nothing for granted. They are at full strength for this match but Lorenzo Ebecilio and Roland Sallai will pick up a suspension for the next match, if either of them go in the referee’s notebook.

It’s a double edged sword for Real Madrid. They need Borussia Dortmund to beat Spurs to have any chance of finishing top but that will mean that they cannot come up short in this match, or risk being knocked out of the competition themselves. Sergio Ramos is doubtful with a broken nose sustained in the Madrid Derby while Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas and Mateo Kovacic remain in the treatment room. Nacho should come in at centre-back and there are no major changes expected.

APOEL Nicosia v Real Madrid Predicted Lineups

APOEL Nicosia (4-4-2): Waterman; Lago, Carlao, Rueda, Vouros; Aloneftis, Vinicius, Morais, Zahid; Camargo, Ebecilio

Real Madrid (4-3-1-2): Casilla; Marcelo, Nacho, Varane, Carvajal; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Isco: Ronaldo, Benzema

APOEL Nicosia v Real Madrid Betting Tips

  • APOEL Nicosia have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 games out of the last 10.
  • Real Madrid have won 6, drawn 5 and lost 2 of the last 10 games.
  • In the last 10 games, APOEL Nicosia have scored an average of 1.9 goals and have received an average of 1.2 goals.
  • In the last 10 games, Real Madrid have scored an average of 1.8 goals per game and have conceded 0.8 goals per game.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in 5 of the last 10 APOEL Nicosia games.
  • There have been 2.5 goals in 6 of the last 10 Real Madrid games.

APOEL Nicosia v Real Madrid Prediction

On paper, this is an easy fixture but things have not been going well for Real Madrid and they must be professional in their approach. It should be seen as an opportunity to get back to winning ways and Zinedine Zidane will be stressing this to his players. Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema could also do with a goal or two to boost their confidence.

Real madrid have prevailed in each of the previous three meetings between these sides. They have also scored at least three goals in each of those victories. A Ronaldo brace and a goal from Ramos secured a 3-0 win at the Bernabeu in September.

Despite having the lion’s share of possession and twice as many shots, Real Madrid could not find a breakthrough against Atletico Madrid. A draw does not suit either side and it’s more a case of two points lost than one point gained in the race to catch Barcelona in the La Liga title race. The gap now stands at 10 points, making next month’s El Classico a must win encounter for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid got away with an early mistake when Raphael Varane’s misplaced pass was seized upon by Angel Correa who inexplicably missed the target when one on one with Kiko Casilla. Varane later redeemed himself with a goal-line clearance following a chipped effort by Kevin Gameiro. However, they were Atletico’s only notable chances as Real Madrid kept the ball for much of the game.

Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema were largely kept quiet by the hosts, with the former restricted to shots from distance which never really troubled Jan Oblak. A late chance fell to Toni Kroos but the Atletico stopper would not be denied and pulled off a decent save to ensure it was honours even in the first Madrid derby at Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone set up his side to stifle Real Madrid and they succeeded in disrupting the flow of the game. Persistent fouling prevented the visitors from getting into any kind of rhythm. Los Colchoneros registered 21 fouls and had six players awarded yellow cards, so may have been lucky to end the game with eleven men on the pitch.

The flashpoint in the match came when Sergio Ramos was caught in the face by the high boot of Lucas Fernandez. The Real Madrid skipper suffered a broken nose and was replaced by Nacho at half time while the perpetrator benefitted from lenient refereeing and was only booked for the incident.

The draw means that Real Madrid have now recorded just one win in the last five matches in all competitions. It’s alarming form and Zinedine Zidane is under pressure to turn things around. Up next is an easy fixture on paper away to Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League before the welcome of Malaga in La Liga at the weekend.

Gareth Bale has once again been linked with a move away from Real Madrid, this time to long-term suitors Manchester United. It seems that the rumours surrounding a Bernabeu exit for the Welshman will not go away. Earlier in the week, he was touted for a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur and now the Red Devils have reportedly rekindled their interest.

Persistence quite often pays off and it could be third time lucky for Man Utd, who have shown an interest in bringing Gareth Bale back to the Premier League on two previous occasions. It is unknown whether any formal talks have taken place at this stage, or even if the player would be open to the move.

Injury Record Does Not Concern Man Utd

Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid career has had it’s highs and lows. He has helped the club to win the Champions League three times and La Liga once. However, his time in the capital has been blighted by injury. He’s currently sidelined with an ongoing calf complaint and has had thirteen separate injuries in his four year spell with Los Blancos.

His ongoing fitness concerns are rumoured to be cause for concern among the Real Madrid hierarchy. After all, they pulled out all of the stops and smashed the transfer record to bring him to the club for £85 million in 2013. Since then, they have watched on as his number of first team appearances have dropped season by season from 48 in his first year, to 31 in 2015/16 and just 27 last term.

With patience in Bale perhaps running out, there is a theory that Real Madrid may be keen to offload the player sooner rather than later. The longer the injury problems continue, the lower his market value will become. Manchester United seem to be unfazed by Bale’s injury proneness and are one of only a handful of clubs that could realistically stump up the cash.

1
Kane-KeylorNavas-GI

Cristiano Ronaldo has long been Real Madrid’s talisman but is not getting any younger. The Portuguese attacker is 32 and heading into the twilight of his career. Madridistas must accept that he cannot go on forever and the club will need to seek a long-term replacement that is capable of shouldering the goalscoring burden.

CR7 has been far from prolific this season. In fact, by his own high standards, a return of just a single goal in seven La Liga appearances is uncharacteristically poor. It’s far too early to say that he’s on the decline but that day will inevitably come. As things stand, he has scored more goals than he has played games for Los Blancos and his successor will need to know where the net is.

World Class Harry Kane In Same Bracket As Ronaldo

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is often linked with a move to Real Madrid, yet no formal talks are known to have taken place. The Spurs striker is a different type of player to Ronaldo. With less pace and trickery, he relies on an eye for goal and his deadly finishing ability.

His goalscoring exploits have won him the Premier League Golden Boot for the last two seasons. He netted 29 times in just 30 league matches last term and has bagged 13 goals in 14 matches in all competitions so far this season.

Former Italian international Gianluca Vialli has told Goal just how highly he rates Kane, touting him as one of football’s future elite stars;

“I think Harry Kane at the moment is a world-class player, probably together with Robert Lewandowski, Suarez, Cristiano, Higuain, and perhaps Icardi. He is definitely one of the top five centre-forwards in the world at the moment and I think soon he will be in the top three.”

With such high praise coming from one of the game’s respected former professionals, it seems that Harry Kane’s stock is rising. A potential stumbling block in any potential transfer is his loyalty to Tottenham as a fan of the club. However, money talks and if any club is to lure him away, then Real Madrid will SURELY be a leading contender for his signature.
