Real Madrid’s French defender Raphael Varane has hailed his team’s improving performance following the 5-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.

A Cristiano Ronaldo hat trick, his 23rd in Real Madrid colours, and a stike each from Karim Benzema and Sami Khedira ensured Los Blancos saw off the San Sebastian outfit with ease. Antonie Griezmann scored a consolation for the visitors.

Speaking to the media after the game, Varane, back to full fitness following a long-term injury sustained at the end of last season, said Carlo Ancelotti’s men were improving all the time and that there was more to come.

“The first half was very good in attack and defence. We are very proud of how we played. We always try to play like we did in the first half,” he stated, before adding special words of praise for Ronaldo. “He is special and spectacular, he gives his best in every match,” he said.

Asked about how far the team can go, Varane told reporters the team would take each game at a time, but the aim to to be successful at the end of the campaign in all competitions.

“We’re are improving the way that we are playing and we have to keep working hard to improve every day”, said Varane , who added “Maybe we relaxed a little but then the team reacted well and we scored another goal. We want to keep going in this direction and by playing with confidence and enjoying playing we can get even more out of ourselves.”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has said Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘out of this world’ and that he is running out of words to describe his star player after the Portuguese scored a hat trick in the 5-1 demolition of Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The goals mean the 28-year-old has now scored 16 in La Liga this season so far, and 27 in 19 games for club and country. It was his 23rd hat trick for Los Blancos in just over four years, and he has now scored a phenomenal 225 goals in just 216 games for the nine-time European Cup winners.

Speaking to the press after the match, Italian manager Ancelotti said: “Cristiano’s talent puts him in a different category altogether, it’s out of this world. He scores so regularly and with such incredible ease. “It’s hard to find new words to describe him.”

The manage also spoke of his delight at his team’s overall performance, particularly in the first half, when four goals in the first 36 minutes ended the game as a contest.

“The first half was perfect, they played very well, they were fast and effective, playing in short and long distances. The team played very well,” Ancelotti stated. He added he was particularly delighted with the trio of Xabi Alonso, Khedira and Modric, but warned them that if their level drops, he has plenty of options in midfield.

“All three of them today- Khedria, Modric and Xabi Alonso- played well and worked well together”. I’ve said many times that Xabi Alonso has the experience and talent to play they way we have to. He has a great eye for play and is very important.

“I have players in the squad who are going to be very important in upcoming matches. When Di Maria played he did a great job, Isco too. All three midfielders are doing a good job, they have different qualities, but we can play well with other midfielders.”

Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata has said he is not exasperated by the lack of first-team football and will continue being patient.

At an Adidas publicity event, Morata said: “I’m not at all disappointed. Last year I played about 17 matches and this season I’ve played in nine already.

The young Madrileno began his career in one of Real Madrid’s lower divisions and moved up to the first division in the Liga. He made nine appearances in all the tournaments this season with Real, but includes one with him being benched.

Although his teammate Karim Benzema began an unsuccessful campaign, Morata gained the support of those who believe he should be given a chance to prove his skills in the starting lineup.

However, Carlo Ancelotti has continued to have complete confidence in the French star, who has scored five goals in the league so far.

Morata is apathetic by his insufficient actions and believes he will one day star with Los Merengues. He said he thinks he’ll end up playing more than last year and if anything that means he is improving, which is good.

He continues to be patient about playing with the Spanish giants. “I’m young and there is no need to rush things because I’m at one of the best teams in the world. My time will come,” he said, “I’m working hard, and I am just thinking about enjoying myself at this club and with our fans.”

Real Madrid closed the gap on Barcelona in La Liga to just three points with a rampant victory over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Following their draw with Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night that saw them qualify for the next stage of the tournament, the attention switched back to hunting down the Catalans in the league.

In a near capacity Bernabeu, Madrid ran riot against fellow Champions League outfit Sociedad, who were notably missing former Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero in the centre of the park.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes in which both sides saw plenty of possession, Madrid suddenly sparked into life when Cristiano Ronaldo crashed a long -range effort off the bar. The Portuguese didn’t take long to find the back of the net though, as just two minutes later he had put Carlo Ancelotti’s men 1-0 up. A superb Xabi Alonso pass fell at the feet of Karim Benzema, and the Frenchman dinked a ball over the top of the defence for Ronaldo to fire home from the right hand side of the area.

Los Blancos were 2-0 within 20 minutes when scorer turned provider, as Ronaldo laid on a pass for Benzema to sidefoot home past a helpless Bravo in the Sociedad goal.

It was 3-0 shortly afterwards when the outstanding Luka Modric sent Ronaldo racing free down the left hand side. His shot was adjudged to have been handled by Markel Bergara. Up stepped Ronaldo to dispatch his 15th goal in La Liga already this season.

The San Sebastian side had no real answer to the onslaught – their only outlay was Carlos Vela who tried to use his pace to exploit the Madrid defence. But the one time he did race through, Pepe hauled him down, and picked up a booking for his efforts.

Eight minutes before the break, Los Blancos had a 4-0 lead, when Gareth Bale set up Sami Khedira to smash the ball home from close range. Although no more goals were added before the interval, Madrid could have had more – Ronaldo went close with a header, as did Welshman Bale.

The visitors made a double change at the break as they had nothing but pride to play for. Former Arsenal player Vela curled an effort wide as Sociedad looked for a consolation. They could, and should have had a penalty when Diego Lopez felled Griezmann in the area. Interestingly, as the referee was running over to award a spot kick, he saw the linesman wave play on and decided not to give it.

On the hour mark they did get the goal they were looking for to give their travelling fans some cheer. Vela sent a ball between Pepe and Varane, and Griezmann raced free to lob Diego Lopez in the Madrid goal. The pair combined again five minutes later but this time Griezmann sent his effort inches wide.

With Madrid having taken their foot off the pedal, Ancelotti sent Asier Illarramendi on in place of Xabi Alonso, to add some fresh legs to the Madrid midfield.  Chances for the home side were few and far between – Modric fired at goal and Ronaldo sent a curling effort just wide.

With 15 minutes left on the clock the home side were awarded a freekick 25 yards out. Ronaldo stepped up to score his hat trick, and 16th goal of a remarkable season to date.

In the closing stages there were more chances for both sides as Vela went close for Sociedad, forcing Lopez into a superb stop, while at the other end Alvaro Morata, on for Benzema, missed from 6 yards with the goal gaping.  In the end it stayed as it was, and Madrid claimed the three points and emphatic win.

Real Madrid take on Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu later on today and the attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale will want to continue their fine form in front of goal.

The trio have scored 12 goals between them in their last three competitive fixtures – against Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, and Juventus in the Champions League. In such devastating form, it will come as little surprise that Los Blancos are at evens to take the three points from the game. A draw is available at odds of around 8/1 while a win for the Basque outfit is at 17/1.

Welshman Bale is priced at 4/1 to open the scoring for the nine-time European Cup winners, and at around 4/5 to score at any point during the match.

Real Sociedad fans can be hopeful of getting a few goals though, with the Madrid defence shipping them freely in recent weeks. La Real can be found at 4/1 to score two or more goals at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Xabi Alonso will play against his boyhood club. The midfielder has recently made a return from injury, and although not a frequent goalscorer, he is at 15/1 to net against his old club.

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad La Liga preview

Real Madrid will be looking to win their third successive La Liga match to shorten the six-point gap between themselves and current league leaders Barcelona with a win against Real Sociedad today, before the Catalan’s play tomorrow.

After 12 matches Los Blancos sit third with 28 points, having lost against both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – the teams currently occupying the top two places with 34 and 33 points respectively.

The game will be the first time Los Blancos defensive midfielder Asier Illaramendi, who joined the Madrid club for a fee of €38m this summer, will play against his former club.

Illaramendi was a product of Sociedad’s cantera, and a key figure as the team had a fantastic 2012/13 season and finished 4th in La Liga, qualifying for the Champions League.

But after the highs of last season Sociedad have had a slow start to this year. They are currently 7th in La Liga, but will be more disappointed with their performances in the Champions League, where they are bottom of the group with one point from four matches.

They did, however, hold Manchester United to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, and Madrid will make sure they take nothing for granted, wary of Sociedad’s dangerous attacking players like Frenchman Antoine Griezmann and former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela.

Probable line ups:Real Madrid: Lopez; Carvajal, Pepe, Varane, Arbeloa; Illarramendi, Alonso, Isco; Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo

Real Sociedad: Bravo; Martinez, Martinez, Gonzalez, Angel; Pardo, Elustondo; Vela, Prieto, Griezmann; Agirretxe

Manchester City have put a huge price tag of 84 million euros on Sergio Aguero, in their increased efforts to ward off Real Madrid from signing the Argentine striker, according to SportsDirectNews.com.

The forward signed from Real’s city rivals Atletico for a reported 45 million euros and is in red hot form, having scored 13 goals in his last 13 matches in all appearances, including a brace in City’s last match against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Aguero did sign a new deal in the summer until 2017, and is now one of the highest paid players at the club on 215,000 euros per week.

He is also a cult hero at the Etihad, having scored a stoppage time winner in the last game of the season to win Manchester City their first league title for 44 years in 2012, and is adored by the City faithful.

Real have been reportedly chasing the Argentine for a while now, going back as far as when he broke through at Independiente, his first club, and in his current spell at Manchester.

As “The Citizens” are financially strong thanks to Arab backing, it is clear Real would have to make City an offer similar to the Bale deal.

AC Milan have joined the race to sign Xabi Alonso as he enters the final seven months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alonso has kept Madrid fans waiting regarding a renewal as his current deal is set to expire in June 2014.

According to Radio Madrid the Italian giants have muscled their way into contention to sign the 31 year-old midfield general.

Today’s addition of Marca claims Real Madrid are a step closer to signing Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, suggesting the Spanish side are resigned to losing Alonso.

Milan are looking for an ‘architect’ to help channel the attacking play, meaning Riccardo Montolivo, who was recently linked with Meringues, could be sacrificed.

Alonso has only recently recovered from a five month injury, making his return to the field in Real’s 7-3 win over Sevilla. Many feel the former Liverpool player is a vital member of the team and one the likes of Asier Illarramendi will struggle to emulate.
