Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez says his team did exactly what they needed to do in the remarkable game against Rayo Vallecano.

Los Blancos won an extraordinary match 10-2 coming from behind against the 9 men from Vallecas.

Real took an early lead though Danilo but fell 2-1 behind after 12 minutes. The 10-time Champions League winners were not playing well and the fans voiced their displeasure. But the visitors had two men sent off by the 20 minute mark and from then on it was one way traffic.

Gareth Bale scored four goals, Karim Benzema grabbed a hat trick and Cristiano Ronaldo scored two as Real became the first team in 55 years to score double figures in a league game.

Speaking afterwards, Benitez said his team deserved to win and played in the right way.

“For a few minutes we lost concentration, but then the team has done what it had to do. We, as a team, have done what we had to do. Score goals and win the game,” he commented.

About the reaction of the fans, he continued: “The fans were happier after we started scoring the goals. I arrived late to dugout and focused on the game. Real Madrid’s anthem shows us what we must do… ‘Hala Madrid & nothing else’.”
