Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has claimed Zidane “is a third-division manager” in a recent interview with Spanish sports newspaper Sport.

“If things don’t go well, I think Zidane will not continue. He is a third-division manager,” Calderon said.

The Spaniard believes Jose Mourinho will return to the club if Zidane fails: “If Mourinho doesn’t sign with Manchester United, he will be the next Madrid manager. I’m almost certain. If the team wins no titles this season, we will see him again on the bench.”

However, Calderon explained in his opinion Mourinho is not the wisest option. Asked about the three years the Portuguese spent at the Santiago Bernabeu, Calderon said “it was not the best time.” “Now, without him, things are more quiet. He is a person that causes undesired conflicts. The president has been trying to bring him back since last year. He has tried to convince him several times. Florentino is crazy about Mourinho’s return,” he added.

Calderon also reflected on next Saturday’s El Clasico: “Barcelona have an advantage, but watch out Real Madrid, because in these matches they put more courage. If we win, La Liga is not lost.”
