Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has said he is enjoying playing in a more central role in the team.

The 26-year-old played and scored against former club Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night in the Audi Cup in Munich in a win that set up a glamour friendly against Bayern Munich.

Bale, about to begin his third season at the Santiago Bernabeu, is more accustomed to a role on the flanks. But speaking to reporters, he said he is happy anywhere in the front three.

“It’s great having everyone believe in you and I hope to repay that trust by winning titles. I can play out on the left, the right and can also do a job in the middle. I feel comfortable in that position,” the Welshman said.

Bale is looking to kick on with Los Blancos this season after a tough campaign last time out. Although he netted 19 goals, he was criticised by fans and media alike for some under par performances for the 10-time Champions League winners, and was accused of being selfish.

He will be looking to replicate the form his showed in his first season, when he scored the winner in the Copa del Rey final and the crucial second goal in the Champions League final against Atletico de Madrid.
