AC Milan have joined the race to sign Xabi Alonso as he enters the final seven months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Alonso has kept Madrid fans waiting regarding a renewal as his current deal is set to expire in June 2014.
According to Radio Madrid the Italian giants have muscled their way into contention to sign the 31 year-old midfield general.
Today’s addition of Marca claims Real Madrid are a step closer to signing Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, suggesting the Spanish side are resigned to losing Alonso.
Alonso has only recently recovered from a five month injury, making his return to the field in Real’s 7-3 win over Sevilla. Many feel the former Liverpool player is a vital member of the team and one the likes of Asier Illarramendi will struggle to emulate.
