This is a very important game for Los Blancos. Barcelona play earlier against the bottom of the table Osasuna at home, so we should expect them to win. Can Real Madrid beat Deportivo de la Coruña tonight?

Deportivo v Real Madrid

Deportivo v Real Madrid meet on Wednesday (20:30, UK time) in the 34th week of La Liga at Riazor. After the defeat in El Clásico, winning is the only option for Zidane’s side.

Deportivo v Real Madrid Preview

Deportivo La Coruña were struggling the whole season to stay away from the relegation area and they had to change the manager. Garitano was sacked and Pepe Mel took over with great results. The former West Bromwich Albion coach beat Barcelona and drew against Atlético Madrid. Now they are 8 points clear from the bottom three. Mosquera is the only injury concern and former Real Madrid player Joselu will be their main threat.

Los Blancos suffered a shocking defeat in El Clásico against FC Barcelona because of a late goal scored by Leo Messi. Now The Blaugranas are topping the table but Real Madrid have still in their hand the title if they win 5 and draw 1 game. The first step will be at La Coruña and without Sergio Ramos, suspended after the red card in El Clásico. Pepe is also injured, but Varane could be recovered to play with Nacho. If the French defender is not fit, Casemiro would have to play as a defender. Isco, James or Morata could have their opportunity.

Deportivo v Real Madrid Prediction

The players with less minutes in La Liga are usually showing a great level when they have the chance to show up. They beat Leganés or Sporting Gijón recently and they need to win at Riazor to win La Liga. Therefore, we’re going to back Los Blancos to win, again conceding goals because Zidane’s side is not defending properly.

Real Madrid beat Deportivo La Coruña at Bernabéu (3-2) this season thanks to Sergio Ramos’ net in the last minute. Last season, Los Blancos won at Riazor (0-2) with both goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Zinedine Zidane spoke in press conference before travelling to La Coruña to face Deportivo. El Clásico and the second defeat in La Liga focused his speech, but the manager wants to look forward to the next game: “We are fine and only thinking about the game against Deportivo. We’re going to try to give everything tomorrow and get the three points”.

He didn’t regret including Bale in the line-up because he was training normally and the Welshman said he was totally fit: “I’d do the same, he trained normally and it happened. You can’t avoid it. I trust my players. We cannot be happy but it’s not serious”.

The French manager confirmed that Varane will travel to Galicia: “He’s fine, happy to be with us, he doesn’t have pain, he trains normally. We expect this is his last problem of the season”. So Varane will be in the starting eleven with Nacho because Sergio Ramos is suspended.

Zidane also spoke about El Clásico and how pessimistic the journalists were after the clash: “Now Barcelona is going to win La Liga and Real Madrid doesn’t worth anything, but I know this isn’t the reality. I only ask my players to not change anything of what we are doing. We are going to keep looking forward”.

The manager is accepting the heavy criticism that he’s having after El Clásico: “We have to tolerate the critics. When we lost we have to accept them”. However, he’s happy about what he did: “I wouldn’t change anything. We lost a game and full stop. We made mistakes, like everybody. I’m the first one but we won’t change anything. We assume the risk and all over the world we did a good match. They won and that’s it. I don’t like to lose, but I won’t change anything”.

Finally, the French manager was sorry about all the miss chances: “We are missing, we can say. It’s part of football but I’m not worried. I’d be if we hadn’t had chances. We need to score more goals and kill the game. We are going to keep going and rectify this tomorrow”.

Bad news for Gareth Bale and Real Madrid. The Welshman will miss the next three weeks of competitions, so he cannot be fit for the Champions League semi-finals against Atlético Madrid, who will take place on the 2nd and 10th of May.

According to the statement released by Real Madrid, “the player has been diagnosed with a grade 2 injury in his left calf”. This means that he cannot play in the next three weeks, so he can reappear only at the end of the season, for the last games of La Liga and, hopefully, the Champions League final.

Bale got injured again in the first half of El Clásico. The former Tottenham player had problems in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich and he missed the second half due to his problem in his ankle. It seemed that Zidane didn’t want to risk, but he surprised everybody by putting Bale in the line-up in El Clásico, obviously a mistake, and now the Welshman cannot be fit for the most important part of the season.

Bale is having an endless problem with the injuries. The ankle, the calf, harmstring, knee injury… the list is very long and the consequence is a poor performance in the second part of the season. Bale has only played 19 games in La Liga this season, six less than Cristiano Ronaldo, for instance.

Despite he was a very important player at the beginning of the season, the injuries have affected his way of playing, and his numbers are very poor. For instance, he has scored only 7 goals in La Liga, whereas last season he found 19 times the net in this competition.

Now that a lot of names are coming up to be the new ‘Galáctico’ of the team, perhaps Florentino Pérez should think if Bale is the right player for Los Blancos. His situation is similar to the one lived by Arjen Robben several years ago. A brilliant player with problems with the injuries. He ended up leaving the club. Will this happen with Bale?

Florentino Pérez was struggling to get a new contract for Isco Alarcón, who wasn’t really convince to continue at Real Madrid. The story has finally ended in a positive way and the Spanish playmaker will play for Los Blancos until 2022, so he will sign another five-year deal.

According to the Spanish newspaper MARCA, the deal is sealed. However, the parties won’t announce it until the summer. Then, Real Madrid will know whether the season was successful or not and they’ll start to prepare the next season, with some players leaving and new ones arriving.

The good news for Real Madrid supporters is that Isco will stay. His current contract expires in June 2018 and he will sign a new five-year deal, so the new contract will expire in June 2020. The salary will be also increased and the Málaga born player will earn €6M per year after tax, the double of what he’s currently getting.

Isco arrived to Real Madrid in 2013 after paying €30M to Málaga. The playmaker was raised at Valencia, but the club left him go and he shone with Málaga also in the Champions League. Then, he also showed a great level in his debut with Los Blancos, scoring 8 goals and playing 32 games in his first season.

Isco was hesitating whether to stay or leave this season. Zinedine Zidane always says good words about the playmaker, but then he’s on the bench in the important games. For instance, he didn’t play a minute in El Clásico or in the first leg in Munich. However, Isco has Zidane’s confidence, so he finally decided to continue tied with Los Blancos.

He’s been a key players in many important games. For instance, he was one of the best players in the derby played at Calderón this season, so he could be also very important in the Champions League semifinals against the city rivals. In this last month of competition it would be very important to see the best of Isco. It’s also Zidane’s duty to obtain the best of the former Málaga player.

The Spanish newspapers are heavily criticizing Zinedine Zidane after El Clásico. A lot of Real Madrid supporters were also very angry with some decisions took by the coach. The French boss has still the support of Florentino Pérez and the supporters, but Los Blancos need to win La Liga to continue with the credit.

The main error in El Clásico was including Gareth Bale in the line-up. We all thought that the Welshman would have started on the bench, after missing the last two games with an injury in his ankle. Generally, the manager doesn’t want to risk with the players with some physical problems but he broke this rule in El Clásico. It was a mistake.

After the game, Zidane said he wouldn’t change anything of the game, but he lost a change in the first half. Besides, the former Tottenham player will be out of the pitches for the last weeks, losing an important piece of the squad. Isco, Lucas Vázquez or Marco Asensio were ready to replace him.

Actually, Asensio showed in the game that he was ready to play it from the beginning. The Spaniard showed great personality during the game and he was one of the best players of Real Madrid. The manager punished again Isco, who didn’t play a minute in another important game.

Zidane was also right in other changes. For instance, he substituted Benzema and James Rodríguez came in. The Colombian playmaker looked out of the team, but he played really well and he was able to score the second goal of the team. Then, perhaps Zidane should have told his players to control the game and think about the positive result. However, the team lost the head and the tried to score the third net, allowing a counter attack in the very last minute.

There are still six games to go in La Liga and Real Madrid will win the title if they win 5 and draw one game. Therefore, the squad should be calm and continue with their idea, but there are some mistakes that need to be corrected.

Los Blancos suffered the second defeat (2-3) in La Liga in El Clásico against FC Barcelona because of a late goal scored by Leo Messi. Have a look here at the performance of the Real Madrid players in a very important game that could have decided La Liga title.

Keylor Navas (9): The Costa Rican goalkeeper has been very criticized in the last weeks, but he was one of the best of the team. He conceded the first goal in the first shot on target and he could have saved it, but then he shone with great saves to Piqué or Luis Suárez.

Marcelo (9): Perhaps, the best player of Real Madrid. His only mistake was not to interrupt Sergi Roberto run in the third goal. The counter attack could have finished there and the game with it. He gave the assist to James and almost put the cross in the opening goal of the game. Also he will be remember for the clash with Leo Messi, who ended up with the Argentinian star bleeding.

Daniel Carvajal (8): Again, he showed a great performance both attacking and defending. The right back suffered with Jordi Alba, but he was quite comfortable with Paco Alcácer. Messi dribbled him in the first goal conceded by Los Blancos.

Nacho (7): He didn’t highlight but he didn’t commit any mistakes. Zidane can trust Nacho because he’s not going to make big errors.

Sergio Ramos (3): The captain hit the bar in the opening goal of the team but he made a huge mistake with his tackle with Leo Messi. Perhaps it’s not red card, but you cannot risk it in this important game.

Casemiro (3): His yellow card in the 20th minute of the game was crucial for the clash. The Brazilian suffered a lot with Messi and could have been sent off in the first half. It wasn’t his best game.

Modric (5): The Croatian midfielder is not at his best and Rakitic was better than him. He arrived late in the first goal scored by Leo Messi and he was unable to control the game.

Kroos (6): Far from being decisive in the game. He didn’t cover Rakitic properly in the second goal and he could score a good goal from outside the box but Ter Stegen prevented it.

Bale (3): The Welshman is being very unlucky with the injuries and he shouldn’t have played the game. Perhaps it’s not his fault, but he wasn’t able to show his potential in the clash.

Benzema (5): Usually he shows a great level in El Clásico but this time he didn’t do it. His best chance arrived in the second half with a header, but Ter Stegen saved it with the foot. His performance should improve in the future.

Cristiano Ronaldo (6): He tried several times and lead the team in the attacking line, but he was unlucky. Ter Stegen save a good shot and he missed a clear chance after an assist from Asensio.

Marco Asensio (8): Again he was the best player in the attacking line. The Spaniard is showing that he is able to play the best games of the season with personality. A shame that he couldn’t assist properly to Cristiano Ronaldo in a great counter attack.

Mateo Kovacic (5): He entered in the pitch for Casemiro and he couldn’t highlight in this position. It’s a tricky position for him, especially if Leo Messi is around.

James Rodríguez (7): He came in at the end of the game and he scored the draw. The Colombian playmaker had a lot of importance in the match in the few minutes he played. We hope he continues like that.

Zinedine Zidane made some mistakes during El Clásico and Barcelona got the three points thanks to a late goal scored by Leo Messi. However, the manager was quite happy with his decisions, including the one about Bale: “He told me he was fine and I don’t regret anything. I’m disappointed for him. These things cannot be controlled. He will have test and I hope it’s not serious”, said the manager.

The coach wasn’t happy with the performance of the team after losing in the last minute: “We cannot be happy. We did a lot during the game. We had a lot of chances to win the game. When you don’t kill the game, this can happen. We are disappointed with the result. We you scored the 2-2 with 10 players, you need to be smarter and be together to defend”.

In this sense, the manager was sorry about the third goal: “We thought we could score the third goal. We were out of our positions after a throw in. There are many more games in La Liga but we have to think in the next game”.

The French coach was also asked about Leo Messi, the star of the game: “Messi makes the difference. Today he scored two goals but it’s not only Messi. We didn’t control the moments when we could punish the rival. If they punish you, it’s normal”.

Zidane didn’t want to comment the red card shown to Sergio Ramos: “I don’t want to know anything about campaigns with the referees. The referee sent Sergio Ramos off and we have to accept it. My evaluation is that we could kill the match and this is why we are disappointed. There are a lot of games where we have a lot of chances and we don’t score goals. And they punish you because at the end these are very good rivals. But I have nothing to tell my players. Nothing will change because we still depend on ourselves”.

Despite the defeat, Los Blancos still have the opportunity to win La Liga and the Champions League: “Nothing is going to change. We played against a great rival. We have to rest and think in the next game because it depends on us. We have to stay positive until the end”.

Real Madrid lost 2-3 against Barcelona in El Clásico at Santiago Bernabeú in a decisive clash for the fight for La Liga. Los Blancos tied the game in the 88th minute with a goal of James but Messi scored in the injury time and gave the three points to Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane decided to introduce his favourite line-up with Gareth Bale in the starting 11 but his problems in his ankle prevented him to finish the game being substituted by Asensio in the first half. While Luis Enrique decided to introduce Paco Alcácer replacing Neymar, who couldn’t play because he was banned.

Los Blancos started the match very good with a lot of intensity, stealing the ball to Barcelona very quick, but when Messi started to have prominence in the pitch, the team managed by Luis Enrique controlled the ball possession. Cristiano Ronaldo had the first chance to open the scoreboard but Ter Stegen prevented with a good save. In the 29th minute Casemiro scored the first goal for Los Blancos after the shot of Sergio Ramos that finished in the bar, but only five minutes later, Barcelona tied the clash with a brilliant goal of Leo Messi. Gareth Bale had to leave the pitch in the 38th minute because of his problems in the ankle and Marco Asensio replaced the Welshman. The team managed by Zinedine Zidane didn’t finish good the first half but finally they could go to the dressing room with a tie.

Real Madrid started the second half with the same intensity as they started in the first minutes of the game and Benzema had a great chance to score the second goal from a good header that saved Ter Stegen. Barcelona started to have once again the ball possession and they had two good chances from a shot of Alcácer and a header of Piqué, but Keylor Nevas made two brilliant saves to prevent both goals. Los Blancos were suffering a lot in defense and Luis Suárez had a very clear chance but the Costa Rican made another save.

In the 69th minute Zidane changed Casemiro by Kovacic. The French manager didn’t want to risk with the Brazilian midfielder because he already had a yellow card since the first half. In the 73rd minute Rakitic scored the second goal for Barcelona from a good left footed shot from outside the box, unstoppable for Keylor. Sergio Ramos was sent off in the 77th minute because of a serious foul to Leo Messi, who was being a nightmare for Real Madrid defense. James entered by Benzema in the 82nd minute and in the first ball the Colombian touched in the game, he scored the second one for Los Blancos. When it looked like the match was going to finish with a draw, Leo Messi appeared again and score the goal that gave the victory to the Catalan side in the 92nd minute.

Barcelona achieved the victory in a crazy Clásico where Messi was the MVP. Los Blancos played a good game even when they were with 10 players but finally they lost a crucial clash and now Barcelona have the same points as Real Madrid in the table. We can highlight the great game of both goalkeepers who prevented many more goals in El Clásico that will be remembered for the number of chances of both sides.

Real Madrid want to have another left back in the squad and they have chosen Theo Hernández as the best substitute of Marcelo. The future of the French defender seems to be far from Atlético Madrid unless there is a radical change in the situation. The young defender of only 19 years will sign for Real Madrid when the season ends for an amount of €35M (his release clause).

Theo Hernández, who has become one of the great sensations of the current season with Alavés shirt, will sign a contract of five seasons with the team managed by Zinedine Zidane. He has already had a verbal agreement with Real Madrid a few weeks ago, showing his desire to sign with Los Blancos next year. Barcelona tried to equalize the offer of Florentino Pérez but the French player prefers to play in the capital of Spain because Real madrid are showing a lot of interest in his signing and he thinks he will have more opportunities to triumph at Santiago Bernabéu. We must also add that Florentino’s offer is economically superior than the one from Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid don’t want Theo’s departure but if Real Madrid pay the release clause, the French defender will have the final decision. He has a contract with Atlético Madrid until 2021, but it looks like Theo wants to change of team because he is not happy with the manner he received from the team managed by Simeone a few years ago.

Not only Real Madrid and Barcelona want to sign one of the rising stars, there also are many important European teams that want his services next years. Manchester City, Olympique Marsella and Liverpool are interested in him but it seems Theo wants to continue in La Liga where he is playing very good being one of the best left backs in the 2016-2017 season.
