Valencia v Real Madrid

Valencia v Real Madrid is a great opportunity for Real Madrid to close the gap on 3rd place Valencia, who currently have a 5 point lead on Los Blancos. Real Madrid are currently one point above 5th placed Villarreal, so the 3 points are also needed to stay in the top 4 in La Liga.

Valencia v Real Madrid Preview

For Valencia, Dani Parejo and Jose Gaya are both expected to return to the starting 11 as they have served their suspensions. However, Gabriel and Ruben Vezo will both miss out after being sent off against Las Palmas, so they are really suffering from ill discipline. There are problems at the back too, as Ezequiel Garay is their only fit central defender. Francis Coquelin will probably be asked to fill in at centre back.

For Real Madrid, Karim Benzema is likely to start at the Mestalla, after returning to the first team with a goal midweek, even though Los Blancos lost the game against Leganes. Zinedine Zidane is likely to go with a 4-3-3 system again this time, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the wide positions. Sergio Ramos played in midweek and should be fine to start again here.

Valencia v Real Madrid Predicted Lineups

Valencia (4-4-2): Neto; Montoya, Coquelin, Garay, Gaya; Maksimovic, Kondogbia, Parejo, Guedes; Mina, Moreno

Real Madrid (4-3-3): Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale

Valencia v Real Madrid Betting Tips

  • Valencia have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 4 games out of the last 10.
  • Real Madrid have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 games out of the last 10.
  • In the last 10 games, Valencia have scored an average of 1.6 goals and have conceded an average of 1.2 goals.
  • In the last 10 games, Real Madrid have scored an average of 1.9 goals and have conceded an average of 1.2 goals.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in 8 of the last 10 Valencia games.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in 7 of the last 10 Real Madrid games.

Valencia v Real Madrid Prediction

Valencia come into match in poor form, having lost their last two matches by 2-1 scorelines. That being said, they did reach the semi final of the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday.

Valencia also haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last four games, and they will not be helped by the huge number of players that are missing at the back.

Real Madrid simply can not find any consistency. The 7-1 win against Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga last week was followed up by a shocking exit in the Copa Del Rey, losing 2-1 to Leganes at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The pressure is on Zinedine Zidane and he will need his big players to perform here. The famous ‘BBC’ front line of Bale, Benzema and Cristiano are likely to be back together for this crucial contest.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid have crashed out of the Copa Del Rey in shock fashion after a 2-1 second leg quarter-final defeat against Leganes at the Santiago Bernabeu. Even though Los Blancos went into the second leg with a 1-0 lead from the first leg, the Copa Del Rey dream is over for another year as Leganes progress to the semi-final on away goals.

This was the first ever win at the Bernabeu for Leganes and the 2-2 aggregate score was enough to take them through. As expected before the match, Zinedine Zidane made a number of changes but it was still a strong looking side. Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, Isco, Marco Asensio and Mateo Kovacic all started the game.

The performance looked sluggish from the start and there were clear problems for Real early on. Claudio Beauvue’s free kick hit the post for Leganes as early as the fifth minute and then Kiko Casilla was called into action to save a Darko Brasanac shot and a Gabriel header.

Those were the warning signs, but Leganes then took the lead after 31 minutes when Javier Eraso curled a great shot into the top corner from 25 yards out. This levelled the tie on aggregate. Leganes then almost doubled their advantage as an overhead kick went narrowly wide.

Real were booed off at half time, but the players responded early in the second half as Karim Benzema clipped a very good finish into the net after Lucas Vazquez’s through ball, putting Real in front again on aggregate.

Leganes regained the lead though, as Gabriel’s header from a corner found the net and the Bernabeu crowd were left in a stunned state of silence. Zidane sent Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal and Borja Mayoral on but it was to no avail, as Real could not find the net again and thus crashed out of the competition. The pressure builds on the Los Blancos boss.

Real Madrid v Leganes Preview

Real Madrid were boosted by the return of striker Karim Benzema as a second half substitute in the 7-1 demolition of Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday. Zinedine Zidane has a decision to make on whether to start him here or stick with Mayoral up top.

Sergio Ramos has not featured in 2018 so far but he is not likely to be risked in this contest. It is expected that Zinedine Zidane will field a similar 11 to the first leg, when they won 1-0 thanks to Marco Asensio’s volley. Kiko Casilla will play in goal as he has done for the other cup games.

Real Madrid (4-3-3): Casilla; Carvajal, Varane, Vallejo, Hernandez; Llorente, Kovacic, Ceballos; Vazquez, Asensio, Mayoral

Leganes (4-3-3): Cuellar; Zaldua, Siovas, Santos, Garcia; Eraso, Perez, Pires; Zhar, Beauvue, Amrabat

Real Madrid v Leganes Prediction

Los Blancos needed a last minute winner in the first leg against Leganes but when the goal did come it was certainly waiting for. The cross came in from the left from Theo Hernandez and it was volleyed home spectacularly by Marco Asensio.

Real will be full of confidence after the fantastic 7-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday and they go into the second leg of this tie as overwhelming favourites to reach the semi-final of the Copa Del Rey. With La Liga possibly out of reach now, the Copa Del Rey could be the best chance of winning a trophy.

Real Madrid had to come from behind against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, but in the end they made light work of the visitors. Los Blancos ended up running riot in the contest, coming away with an emphatic 7-1 victory to take their place back in the top 4 of La Liga in style.

Real Madrid surprisingly fell behind in the game after Adrian turned home a cross by Lucas Perez. They were not behind for long though, as Nacho played a one-two with Marcelo and finished the move himself. It then turned into the Gareth Bale show, as he put Real ahead by curling in a great strike.

After the break, Bale struck again by heading home from a corner. Luka Modric then got in on the act by firing in a fourth goal from outside the area. Cristiano Ronaldo then put all of the rumours about his future to one side and added Real’s fifth goal on the day by tapping in at the back post.

Ronaldo then suffered an injury when scoring the sixth goal. He stooped down low for a diving header and got a boot to the face for his troubles. In typical Cristiano style, he then grabbed a smartphone to check the damage immediately after.

That was not all though, as the same man that grabbed Real’s first goal on the day also claimed their last. Nacho finished the rout off by adding a seventh goal. Deportivo must really hate playing Real Madrid, as they have suffered 7-1, 6-2, 5-0, 8-2, 4-0, 5-1 and 6-1 defeats in recent years.

For Zinedine Zidane and his side, this was a crucial win in order to return back to the top 4 in La Liga. It was also a great way to respond to the 0-1 defeat to Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu last week. Next up is the 2nd leg of the Copa Del Rey quarter-final against Leganes at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid v Deportivo La Coruna Preview

After resting the big players for the 1-0 away win at Leganes in the Copa Del Rey on Thursday evening, they are all expected to return for this big contest. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are expected to take their place in the side, forming the front two. It remains to be seen whether Zinedine Zidane will choose Isco or Marco Asensio to play behind the strikers, after the latter’s winning goal on Thursday. Sergio Ramos is out, while Karim Benzema is not fit enough to start.

Deportivo have a couple of injury problems to deal with for their trip to the Bernabeu. Centre backs Raul Albentosa and Sidnei are both doubts for the match, but Sidnei is expected to feature alongside Fabian Schar. Lucas Perez is likely to start wide on the right and this will mean that Florin Andone will be leading the line.

Real Madrid v Deportivo La Coruna Predicted Lineups

Real Madrid (4-3-1-2): Navas; Carvajal, Nacho, Varane, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Isco; Ronaldo, Bale

Deportivo La Coruna (4-3-3): Martinez; Juanfran, Schar, Sidnei, Luisinho; Guilherme, Mosquera, Borges; Perez, Andone, Lopez

  • Deportivo La Coruna have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 6 games out of the last 10.
  • In the last 10 games, Real Madrid have scored an average of 1.9 goals and have conceded an average of 1.1 goals.

Real Madrid v Deportivo La Coruna Prediction

Real Madrid are not in good form, having won just one of their last five matches in La Liga. There is a lot of pressure on Zidane and his players and a lot of the rumours regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future can not be helping preparations for these big games.

Los Blancos are now 19 points behind Barcelona and it looks like Real may need to concede defeat in the pursuit of retaining their La Liga title. Opponents Deportivo La Coruna are struggling a lot themselves and are in the relegation zone. They are 2 points away from safety and need a result.

Real Madrid have an incredible record against Deportivo, winning 3-0, 6-2, 5-0, 8-2, 4-0 and 5-1 in recent years. The tip is for Real to win comfortably here and they need to get the result.

Real Madrid had Marco Asensio to thank for scoring a late winner against Leganes in the first leg of their quarter final tie in the Copa Del Rey. It was a much-changed Real Madrid line up from the start as Zinedine Zidane kept faith with the youngsters that have played the other games in the Copa Del Rey so far this season.

The big players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Marcelo among many others were rested for this contest with a big game against Deportivo coming up in La Liga on Sunday afternoon. Karim Benzema was also missing due to a hamstring injury, as he was not quite ready to return.

The first half was dominated by Real Madrid and they had the better chances as Raphael Varane had a header over the bar and Mateo Kovacic hit a shot wide when he was one on one with Nereo Champagne.

Leganes did almost score when Marcos Llorente headed on to his own crossbar. They then had another opportunity as Nordin Amrabat put a cross in and Claudio Beauvue’s volley was saved by Real goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

It was not until the 89th minute that Real Madrid finally made the breakthrough, as Theo Hernandez’s cross from the left wing was brilliantly volleyed home by Marco Asensio at the near post. There seemed like no space to fit the ball between the post and the goalkeeper but Asensio somehow managed it. It was his first goal in eleven matches.

This result was Real’s first win in four matches in all competitions and hopefully they will be able to take some confidence into the rest of the season. The return leg against Leganes will be taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday 24th January.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Real Madrid continues to dominate stories in the Spanish media, and the latest rumours suggest that if Ronaldo was to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer then the club would target three top players to create an all new attacking force.

Spanish publication Marca has speculated that Real’s ‘BBC’ front three of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo could all be replaced by an incoming trio of Neymar, Eden Hazard and Robert Lewandowski. This is of course another rumour that should be taken with a pinch of salt as the original story from Marca is lacking any real quotes, but interest in all three of these players has been reported heavily in the past.

It is said that the next few days will be crucial in knowing whether or not Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Los Blancos or if he will decide to leave the club. It was claimed by AS that the player had decided that he wants to return to Manchester United, but there were no real quotes to back up that story either.

New ‘NHL’ strike force?

It has also been claimed that Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent, and Real president Florentino Perez have been working on an exit for the Portuguese superstar. Real also believe that now is not the right time to work on a new contract for Cristiano, as Zinedine Zidane’s side are struggling on the pitch.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is not convinced that the links to Neymar, Hazard and Lewandowski are genuine. He told Le Parisien:

“This is a strategy Madrid always have used to distract their fans from the current problems of the team, and sell them a dream for next season,”

“It is also a way of pressurising Ronaldo into leaving. The president has the idea in his head of using the money freed up to sign Neymar.”

It remains to be seen what is true and what isn’t, but the sooner it is sorted out the better.

Leganes v Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid have named much changed sides for the Copa Del Rey matches so far but now that it is down to the last 8, Zinedine Zidane may decide to name some of his bigger players in the side in order to make sure they come through the tie. Real simply need to win for a little confidence boost alone, as recent form may have affected team spirit. That being said, a win in La Liga at the weekend is crucial too.

The major team news is that Karim Benzema is expected to return to the squad for Real Madrid. He has missed a number of games with a hamstring injury but it appears that he is ready to return here. Kiko Casilla is expected to keep his place in goal and Zinedine Zidane has stated that the number two keeper will play all of the Copa Del Rey matches, even if they reach the final.

Leganes (4-3-3): Cuellar; Zaldua, Siovas, Santos, Garcia; Eraso, Perez, Pires; Zhar, Beauvue, Amrabat

Leganes v Real Madrid Prediction

Leganes are fresh off the back of a 3-2 defeat at Real Betis on Monday night. They fought back from 2-0 down to level at one point in the match, but conceded a late penalty which was converted. The fact that Real have had 2 extra days rest may be crucial here.

Some of the big players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale may not be risked for this game. If worst comes to worst, Los Blancos will still have the 2nd leg at the Bernabeu to turn things around. Real are still expected to win this first leg though.

Ronaldo

Rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the Santiago Bernabeu have done the rounds in the media again, suggesting the Portuguese star is unhappy at the club. The reports claim that Ronaldo is unhappy about a ‘broken promise’ related to a new contract that he was due to receive.

It was only last month that everything seemed great, as Ronaldo picked up his fifth Ballon d’Or which cemented him as one of the best footballers to ever play the game. Also, very recently Zinedine Zidane stated that he expects Ronaldo to stay with Real until he retires. These rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt as the man himself has also stated on many occasions that he wishes to end his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Return To Manchester United On The Cards?

Cristiano Ronaldo has been excellent since signing for Real Madrid eight and a half years ago and losing him would be a huge blow for the club. His current contract runs until 2021 and the rumour is that Real president Florentino Perez promised to extend the deal and offered a pay rise.

However, the newest reports state that these promises have been broken and that there is no new contract in sight. Spanish publication AS state that Ronaldo feels let down by Perez and the club and even state that the player now wishes to return to his old club Manchester United.

It is also claimed that Manchester United are aware  of this and will look to make an offer in the summer. Ronaldo’s relationship with Perez has not been great at the moment and it could cost the club dearly. Los Blancos have reportedly been looking at deals for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, who could act as replacements for Ronaldo, should the Portuguese superstar leave the club soon.
