Real Madrid make their season debut in the Copa del Rey on Thursday against Fuenlabrada, a team from the third division of the Spanish football in another derby of the Spanish capital.

Zinedine Zidane has never won the Copa del Rey and he has to deal with this format, with two legs: “I’m ok with the competition although in other countries it’s done in a different way, but in Spain we have two legs. What I think doesn’t matter, I have to be focus and now I cannot tell you. I’ve never won the Copa, it’s true. I don’t have any problems with the Cups, but it’s true that I’ve never won it, but I hope I can win it”.

Although this competition is the less relevant, they want to win it: “It’s not a personal issue, it’s something all the squad thinks, we are thrilled to play the Copa like all the competitions and, like always, we want to give everything. We are going to try to play a good football match and we don’t have to think that we’re not interested in the Copa. We have to win all the games with this t-shirt”, the coach commented.

Zidane is being very successful with Real Madrid, but he’s not thinking if he can stay 5 or 10 years more: “You know it’s not like this, I’m going to think only in this year. I have a lot of experience, especially as a player, and nothing about euphoria, never, only work. I don’t think in the future”.

The French coach received The Best Award on Monday but he doesn’t think much about it: “I can tell you I accept this prize, it’s the job we’ve done until now. We’ve won a lot with this group. I don’t say I don’t deserve it. If you ask me if I’m the best, I tell you ‘no’. There are betters. If in 10 years I’m training, we’ll see, not now”.

Real Madrid sold this summer two important player to top European teams. Álvaro Morata and Mariano Díaz left the club to play for Chelsea and Olympique Lyon with success. This is only the last example of homegrown footballers who had to leave the Spanish capital to triumph in other countries.

According to a report published by the Swiss observatory about football studies CIES, Real Madrid is the club with more homegrown players in the five top European leagues. In this report, CIES have included footballers that played at least three seasons in the clubs from the age of 15 until the age of 21 in 31 different European leagues.

The report shows that Ajax is the club with more homegrown players as professionals in the European leagues. 71 footballers are now playing in Europe, only 7 of them in the Ajax current squad. However, Real Madrid is the club with more homegrown players in the top European league -Spain, Italy, Germany, England and France- with 41, 8 of them in the current squad.

Overall, Real Madrid have 58 homegrown footballers playing in Europe, being the fourth club in this ranking. After Ajax (71), we find Dinamo Zagreb (67), Partizan (61) and Real Madrid (58). FC Barcelona is in the eleventh position in the ranking with 50 players.

The report shows what we’ve been seen in the last years: the power of Real Madrid youngsters. Many young footballers are shining in the club, but Los Blancos are unable to give space to most of them. Unfortunately, the last example was Álvaro Morata, who decided to leave the club although Zidane wanted him in the squad.

Other examples of players around Europe are Álvaro Negredo, Roberto Soldado, Diego López, Marcos Alonso… The list is endless, but it’s a good example of how the things are working in this golden era of the club.

On Monday, FIFA organized The Best Award Ceremony in London, where Real Madrid workers were the main protagonist of the event. Up to seven ‘madridistas’ went on the stage to receive the prize or take a photo in one unforgettable evening for the club. The titles conquered in 2017 have the reward of these individual prizes that enhance the power of the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo won The Best player award of the year, whereas Zinedine Zidane was the best coach. Besides, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Luka Modric were also in the ideal line-up of the year. Florentino Pérez was also present on the stage to share this moment with the players and the manager.

The president of Real Madrid admitted that this is one of the best times in the club history: “Zidane is setting an era as a coach. We’re living a golden age and we owe to him and to the players. He was born to be always at Real Madrid”, Pérez said in London. He also had some words to Cristiano Ronaldo: “He is simply the best. In this golden age of Real Madrid we owe him a lot”.

The Portuguese was the main protagonist of the event, winning again The Best award: “I want to thank, in the first place, my colleagues at Real Madrid and the Portuguese national team. It was an extraordinary year. It’s been 11 years coming up to pick up prizes for talent, hard work and commitment. My goal is winning collective trophies, but also individual ones”, Cristiano said.

Zinedine Zidane won the award for the first time because last year the trophy was given to Claudio Ranieri: “This is the best club in the world and we want to keep doing history”, the French coach said. He also highlighted the importance of Sergio Ramos: “Ramos knows he’s our captain and, at the end, he’s the most important player in the team”.

Zidane-The Best- GI

Today was a happy day for Real Madrid. Some important members of the squad, the coach and the president travelled to England to The Best Awards ceremony in the London Pavillion, in Piccadilly Circus. FIFA organized this event for the second year in a row and Los Blancos were the protagonist.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane won the two most important awards. The Portuguese striker brings home for the second time in a row The Best award as the best footballer of the year, beating Leo Messi and Neymar. The Portuguese won the Champions League and La Liga last season, scoring key goals in the decisive moments.

On the other hand, Zinedine Zidane received this award for the first time in his career. Last year he was shortlisted, but Claudio Ranieri won the award after winning the Premier League with Leicester City. This time, after winning back-to-back titles of the Champions League, Zidane deserved to win the award. Apart from the European title conquered in Cardiff, we should add other four titles -FIFA Club World Cup (although it was in December), La Liga, Spanish Supercup and European Supercup-.

There are also five Real Madrid players in the ideal line-up made by FIFA: Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the eighth time that the captain Sergio Ramos is in the ideal line-up. These are all the players included in the ideal team: Buffon (Juventus), Dani Alves (Juventus, now PSG), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus, now Milan), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Modric, Kroos (Real Madrid), Iniesta (Barça), Neymar (Barça, now PSG), Messi (Barça) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid).

Keylor Navas is not in this list, but he was shortlisted as the best goalkeeper of the season, an award won by Gianluigi Buffon. The Puskas Award of the best goal of the year went to Olivier Giroud.

Florentino Pérez wanted to represent Real Madrid in this important day for the club. Los Blancos were the main protagonist in the ceremony, showing the strength of the squad and the importance of the project. Hopefully, next year they come back to the The Best ceremony because it would mean that the season was again successful.

Zinedine Zidane was happy after the victory against Eibar (3-0) at home although the team didn’t play well. Actually, the manager thinks that there are several things to improve: “We had a lack of fluency. We can do it better. With the ball we can do it better. At the end we had many chances and sometimes you have to think that you cannot do everything perfect”.

Despite these problems with the way of playing, Los Blancos got the three points: “The 3-0 is a good result. Well in defense and I have the perception that everything wasn’t perfect, but happy. It was important to get the three points today”.

Zidane was asked about the decision of leaving Benzema on the bench: “It was planned. After these weeks we decided to leave him on the bench. It doesn’t mean anything. He had to rest and after he’s been half an hour very well. It’s good news and, besides, he’s very very good. Karim has a bit of everything. Football is that. It’s important to score, but there are other things. I see them and Benzema has it”.

Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t score again and he was a bit desperate: “We are not concerned, we know that for him it’s important, but this is very long. In La Liga he’s going to be back little by little, we can be calm”.

Today, Cristiano Ronaldo will receive The Best award: “He is the best footballer of his generation, it’s well deserved. All the awards he’s won are deserved. He is the best”.

The manager wanted to face the criticism: “We are here to do well our job. People speak. We can do it better, but we’re not doing it bad. Besides, all the things these players have done, and they keep winning. Like the day against Manchester United or Barcelona, but it’s impossible to play always like this. At the end we have to do a balance”.

Real Madrid got the fourth victory in a row in La Liga (3-0) after beating Eibar at Santiago Bernabéu. It wasn’t a great game for Los Blancos and we might forget this game so soon, but Zidane’s men got the three points easily against a rival that never tried to put Casilla in troubles.

Zinedine Zidane introduced many chances in the line-up. Benzema, very criticized this week, stayed on the bench, whereas Asensio, Theo Hernández or Dani Ceballos had the opportunity to start. The manager wanted to give minutes to all these other important players in the squad.

The first chance arrived very early but Isco missed it. Despite this opportunity, Eibar were creating danger and Los Blancos weren’t playing well. However, they could score in the 18th minute with an own goal from Olivera. In the 28th minute arrived the second goal. Theo Hernández put a cross from the left side and Asensio scored with a great volley, although the goalkeeper could do more.

The second half started like the first one, with Isco missing a clear chance in front of Dmitrovic. However, Los Blancos weren’t playing well and Eibar had the ball, but without putting Casilla in difficulties. Real Madrid couldn’t close the match, because Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t at his best and he missed another clear chance in front of Dmitrovic.

Karim Benzema and Marcelo came in in the pitch to close the game. And both were the protagonist of the best play of the game. It was in the 81st minute and both combine magically to score the third one. Benzema assisted and Marcelo scored. Cristiano Ronaldo had another opportunity at the end, but the goalkeeper prevented it. Finally, Los Blancos got the three points in a pleasant evening in a game that could be easily forgotten. The was of playing should improve against more important rivals.

If you don’t want to miss the action from Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, this is a good option for you. Los Blancos are struggling at home this season but they cannot fail to win this game. For this reason, we give you the option to watch Real Madrid v Eibar in live streaming with the link above.

Zinedine Zidane might give some rest to important players but next week they only have a Copa del Rey game against a weak side like Fuenlabrada. For this reason we should see most of the stars on the pitch, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. Both need to score because they’ve only found the net once in La Liga this season, in the last game against Getafe.

The French manager doesn’t have the possibility to include Mateo Kovacic, Dani Carvajal or Gareth Bale in the list because they’re all injured. Hopefully, Los Blancos can beat this season Eibar, but this team was able to get a point last season. However, they are struggling now to stay away from the bottom three of the table.

Zinedine Zidane spoke in press conference one day before facing Eibar at home in the next game in La Liga. Los Blancos are struggling at home and they need the three points after the draw in Champions League against Tottenham.

This game left a lot of controversy around Karim Benzema, who was criticized for missing many goals. Gary Lineker also said that Benzema was overrated: “I’m bothered about Karim because people who know about football, saying that, it’s a shame. To me he’s the best. I don’t know if people think the ‘9’ has to score 50 goals. Karim is not going to score 60 goals, but he’s going to score 25 or 30 and give 30 assists. I’m bothered but you can’t avoid it”, the manager explained.

The French manager was asked about the award ‘The Best’ because Zidane has been shortlisted this year: I’m lucky to be here, in the best club in the world, with the best players”. Zidane said refusing thinking he’s the best coach.

The coach also spoke about the problems playing at home: “We like playing at Bernabéu. It’s true that if you see the results it’s not what we expected. Against Tottenham we didn’t win, but I said this was very long and we will go through. We have the possibility to play at home and win the game now”.

Zidane analyzed the problems Los Blancos are having in set pieces: “I’m sure the rivals study us better. But this has just stated. We know how to play and also they know. Now there are injuries, we don’t score in set pieces, we don’t score our chances… calm down because there are many positive things in all the negative issues you are asking”.

Now Los Blancos have an important run at home: “We play every three days. Now we have 7 games. Players like to play. It’s a bit complicated, but we have almost two days to recover and we are fine physically”.

Real Madrid are struggling to win at home this season because they’re missing many chances. At least, they’ve won their last three games in La Liga and the game against Eibar should be a victory if they want to chase FC Barcelona. Eibar are having problems when attacking, so we can expect a clean sheet for Keylor Navas.

Eibar were able to get a point (1-1) last season thanks to the goal scored by Fran Rico. At home, they were thrashed (1-4) with Benzema, James Rodríguez and Asensio as the scorers.
