Former Brazil and Real Madrid striker Ronaldo has hailed Zinedine Zidane for the impact he has made in such a short space of time.

The Frenchman took over Los Blancos in January following the sacking of Rafa Benitez.

Real looked down and out in La Liga with little hope of catching Barcelona or Atletico de Madrid. But having won 10 on the bounce they now sit just one point behind the top two with just two games remaining.

Zidane has also overseen Real’s march to the Champions League final where they take on city rivals Atletico de Madrid as they go for La Undecima.

Speaking to Cadena Copa, Ronaldo, who played alongside Zidane at the Santiago Bernabeu in the early 2000’s, said: “It was very important to reach the final and we are all very happy. It was very important to win.”

He added: “It’s amazing what he’s doing, Zidane. He deserves it. He has the respect of the players.”

In his four and a half seasons in the Spanish capital between 2002 and 2007, Ronaldo netted 83 goals in 127 league games. He won La Liga once as well as as the Intercontinental Cup and the Super Copa de España.
