Bayern Munich players were very happy after the game at Santiago Bernabéu. The German club suffered another European disappointment against a Spanish side and this time they blamed the Hungarian referee Viktor Kassai.

Real Madrid twice, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League in the last four years. The German side is used to arrived to the finals but this time they couldn’t even reach the semifinals and they blamed the referee, who sent Arturo Vidal off and consider valid two goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo in possible offside.

“We had thought of everything going into this game – except the referee”, Carlo Ancelotti said in press conference. The former Real Madrid manager started his speech talking about the referee: “You can’t decide a semi-final spot like this. It shouldn’t happen at this level”. “The referee probably wasn’t up to the task”, said the Italian manager.

Arturo Vidal was even harsher with the referee: “This robbery cannot happen in the Champions League. It was pretty clear and we start to doubt a little bit”, the Chilean midfielder said. “We wanted to go through and I’m angry because of the referee deciding a high intensity game. He made a lot of mistakes and he left us out of the Champions League”.

According to some Spanish media, Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcántara and Robert Lewandowski went into the referee’s changing room to speak with him. They were claiming that Casemiro should have been sent off and Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals were in offside. Besides, they also say that Arturo Vidal’s second yellow card was unfair because he touched the ball.

However, Real Madrid players said that Sergio Ramos own goal was invalid, because Lewandowski was in offside, whereas Arturo Vidal could have been sent off earlier after a foul committed to Casemiro. Besides, the first yellow card could have been a red card, after a tough tackle with Isco Alarcón. Finally, Real Madrid supporters claimed that the penalty committed by Casemiro is doubtful and the one whistled in Munich was unfair.

Even Gerard Piqué wanted to speak about the game and the referee and he tweeted the following from his Twitter account.

What do you think about the referee?

Zinedine Zidane was a happy in the press conference after the game against Bayern Munich. His team went through the semifinals of the Champions League again after beating the German side in the extra time with a hat trick scored by Cristiano Ronaldo: “He’s unique. We are happy with him and also Bernabéu’s supporters”, the manager said.

Just few minutes before, Cristiano Ronaldo said that he doesn’t like to be booed by his own supporters: “Perhaps he is not booed anymore, but this is Bernabéu stadium and it can happen from time to time, he knows it. He shows in the pitch what he has inside. There are few players who are there in the key moments and the supporters will thank Cristiano Ronaldo everything he’s done here”, Zidane defended his player.

The French manager also spoke about the game and he wanted to highlight the great performance of Bayern Munich: “It was very level, but at the end we achieved a good and deserved result. We can say we played against the best team. Today’s game was the hardest one, but the victory was deserved. We scored six goals and we are happy and proud of the great effort of my players. We had a cold mind, a lot of chances without scoring, so it’s normal to suffer in these kind of games”.

Bayern Munich players and Carlo Ancelotti criticize a lot the referee: “Referee’s job is difficult, I never talk about them. Their second goal was also in offside […] After scoring six goals, I think we deserve to qualify. With effort, but we deserve it. There is no luck in football, you have to win and we’ve done it”, the manager said proudly.

On Friday we’ll know Real Madrid’s rival for the semifinals: “I don’t know what is going to happen. We played against Bayern and people thought it wasn’t the right moment. If we want to achieve anything, we have to play against everybody, so we’ll see the draw. We are going to fight”.

Finally, it was time to look to El Clásico, who will be played on Sunday. Toni Kroos or Marcelo suffered some problems during the game: “It’s normal they have problems, but we have five days to recover. We are happy with the victory and we are going to recover very quickly. The effort was huge and we are going to rest although some players have problems”.

Cristiano Ronaldo always shows up in the important moments of the season. This year he has rested more than ever to arrive to the crucial games fit and he showed it again on Tuesday. The Portuguese was the key man in the tie, scoring five goals to help Los Blancos to reach the semifinals for the seventh time in a row.

After his exhibition, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke in the Spanish TV about his performance: “I keep the positive things. The team was great and I’m very happy to score three goals”, the star said after the game.

The journalist asked Cristiano if he deserves the name of a street in Madrid after making the difference against Bayern Munich: “I only ask to Bernabéu not to be booed, because I always give everything in every game and, although sometimes I don’t score, I always try to work and help Real Madrid”.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 103 goals in Europe, including the five nets against Bayern Munich. Again, the Portuguese was the man of the match and the German newspapers highlighted today his performance.

The Portuguese player spoke about Bayern: “We knew we had to play very well or Bayern would create chances because it’s a team that can score goals in any stadium. They showed they are a great team, but we played well and we had several chances in the first half. In the second half, we conceded two goals but we are used to suffer and we go home very happy”.

It wasn’t easy to go through the semifinals because Los Blancos had to play again an extra time against Bayern Munich: “Real Madrid were better. Scoring six goals against a team like Bayern Munich is not easy. We deserve to qualify, we were great, the team knew how to suffer and we are already in the semifinals”, Cristiano Ronaldo finished after another exhibition.

Real Madrid are in the semifinals of the Champions League for the seventh time in a row after beating (4-2) Bayern Munich in the extra time. The German side fought until the end, took the lead but they were unable to reach their goal playing again with ten players. Los Blancos are still alive in their competition thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat trick. The Portuguese again shows up when needed.

Zinedine Zidane didn’t surprise with his line-up and Isco Alarcón had finally the opportunity to bright from the beginning. Ancelotti could finally put Hummels and Boateng as the full back pair.

The idea was pretty clear from the beginning. Bayern had to attack and Real Madrid will look for their opportunity in the counter attack. And the first clear chance was for the German side, but Robben missed it. Real Madrid reacted and Carvajal could score from a long shot, but Neuer saved it again. The German goalkeeper made a huge mistake though just after a cross from Carvajal, the ball arrived to Sergio Ramos, but Boateng saved the goal on the line.

In another counter attack, it was the chance for Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Portuguese didn’t pass the ball to Benzema, who just had to tap it in and his shot was saved. Real Madrid were missing a lot of chances to be in advantage in the scoreboard, whereas Bayern Munich only created danger from the corner kick spot. Los Blancos could score in the last minutes, but Cristiano missed again another brilliant counter attack lead by Marcelo.

Bayern Munich started better the second half. Very soon Robben could score the first one but Marcelo prevent it on the goal line. Few minutes later, again Robben, fell in the area and the referee pointed the penalty score. Lewandowski didn’t miss it and put Bayern in advantage. Just two minutes later, Robben assisted to Vidal but the Chilean midfielder miss it. It was the worst moment for Los Blancos.

It was time for a change. Benzema left the pitch and Asensio came in. Just after that, Lucas Vázquez replaced Isco, so Los Blancos had many more players in the midfield to control the game. This was the time when Casemiro cross to Cristiano, who equalize the game from a header. However, only one minute later, Sergio Ramos scored an own goal. The tie was equalized.

Marcelo and Asensio show

Real Madrid were suffering but Vidal was sent off with 7 minutes to go. Los Blancos tried harder but the game went to the extra time. Los Blancos tried more and the prize arrived before the half time, Sergio Ramos assisted and Cristiano Ronaldo scored in offside. Again, Zidane’s side was in the semifinals.

In the second half of the extra time, Real Madrid killed Bayern. Marcelo did the play of the tournament and assisted to Cristiano, who scored a hat trick. Just some minutes later, the protagonism was for Marco Asensio, who dribbled twice Hummels and put the four goal in the scoreboard. Suffering a lot, but Real Madrid are in the semifinals. It’s the seventh time in a row for Los Blancos.

Marcelo arrived to Spain in 2006 and he was only 18 years old. He was a young left back from Brazil and no one knew him. Actually, he was heavily criticized at the beginning because of his problems with the defensive skills. 10 years later he’s one of the captains of the squad and, perhaps, the best left back in the world.

In the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich, Marcelo will play his 400th game with the white t-shirt. “I’d never thought I could achieve these numbers with Real Madrid”, Marcelo said in an interview with Globoesporte.

This is a milestone for every footballer and not many Real Madrid players can say that. He scored a goal in a Champions League final -the third in Lisbon against Atlético Madrid- and he raised twice the European trophy.

Marcelo is still very young but he’s already looking at the future, when he cannot play anymore for Los Blancos: “I’d love to play eventually for Botafogo. It’d be amazing”, the Brazilian said. He came to Spain from Fluminense but he’d love to play for the other Brazilian team.

Botafogo answered very quickly in social media, welcoming the Real Madrid player:

Marcelo’s contract expires in 2020, but the club wants to extend it until 2022. No one doubts about the quality and the professionalism of the Brazilian defender and he’s one of the favourite players of the supporters. Besides, he doesn’t have a replacement in the squad, with Fabio Coentrao showing a very poor performance.

In the meantime, Real Madrid are trying to look for another left back in the market, not to replace Marcelo, but because the Brazilian player needs some rest during the seasons to avoid injuries. Theo Hernández, currently playing on loan at Alavés from Atlético Madrid, is the favourite one.

Carlo Ancelotti and Xabi Alonso spoke in press conference at Santiago Bernabéu before facing Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Both know very well the stadium, the supporters and it will be a very special game for these Bayern Munich workers.

The manager still thinks they have options to go through the semifinals and he’s confident they can still succeed: “We have disadvantage after the first leg, it’s pretty clear. We have to play a huge game to go through. We have less odds than before the first leg, but we have some chances”.

It will be a very special game for Carlo Ancelotti: “I spent two years here and I have very good and unforgettable memories, and this is what matters. I don’t know how they’ll welcome me”, the Italian coach said.

The manager also confirmed that Lewandowski will be available and he expects to not commit the same mistakes than in Munich: “Giving freedom to Cristiano is letting him to score. If you give him one metre, he scores. These are small details. Tomorrow they will be important as well”.

It will be a very special game for Xabi Alonso as well. The midfielder will retire at the end of the current season, so it could be the last Champions League game: “It’s a special game, I played five years here and I know very well the team, the players… We know the difficulty and what we are facing and we are ready”.

This is the first time Xabi Alonso will meet with his former team-mates: “I’m very touched for coming back. I was looking forward to coming back, I knew I was going to play against Real Madrid at any moment. But tomorrow we’re back to work against the best team in the world, it’s a challenge for us. We have a big goal, a huge game against a big team and we’ll give everything. We want to fight to be the best and it’ll be difficult but we’re going to try”, Xabi said.

Zinedine Zidane was very clear in press conference and he announced that Gareth Bale won’t be available to play against Bayern Munich. The Welshman suffered another injury at the Allianz Arena and he had to be substituted by the manager, who chose Marco Asensio surprisingly.

The Welshman missed the game against Sporting Gijón and he won’t be available against Bayern Munich. However, Bale is working to play on Sunday El Clásico, the game against FC Barcelona that can decide La Liga title. Zidane confirmed in press conference his absence in the Champions League clash but he is cautious with the game against The Blaugranas.

Zidane doesn’t want to risk with the different injuries, so he prefers to be patient with Bale, who suffered a problem near the ankle. The Welshman had surgery in this ankle and since then he’s playing with pain. At the Allianz Arena, Bale the injury was even more painful, so he prefered to be substituted instead of risking another serious problem.

Therefore, the physical problems of Gareth Bale currently are not very important. The British winger is training at Valdebebas trying to be ready for the important game against FC Barcelona. However, Real Madrid shouldn’t be very concerned because Asensio or Isco have showed that they are able to replace the Welshman.

Since his return after the injury, Gareth Bale is not showing a great level. He was a very important player at the end of the last season and at the beginning of the current one. However, his performances are getting poorer, perhaps because of this pain in his ankle.

Bale has only scored against Espanyol and Villarreal in 2017, being the less important player of the BBC. In La Liga he’s scored 7 goals this season, whereas last season he found the net 17 games. Will Bale show again a great level in the last games of the season?

Zinedine Zidane didn’t want to give any clue about the line-up of Tuesday’s game. The French manager has confirmed that Gareth Bale won’t be available but we don’t know yet if Isco will be the replacement: “I’ve decided, but I won’t comment it, not even if we’ll change the formation”.

The French manager expects Bale to be recovered for El Clásico but he has confirmed that the Welshman won’t play against Bayern Munich: “Gareth has worked a lot to go back with the team after his injury. When he was back, he had a lot of hope and now he has some problems that prevent him to stay fit. He won’t play against Bayern, we don’t want to risk”.

All the supporters want Isco to be his replacement after his great performance against Sporting: “He earned it, like everybody else. He’s ready like the others, this is the most important thing. Then, we’ll see what we decide and how we’ll play”.

Even Fabio Coentrao has played more minutes than Isco in the Champions League: “There is no explanation. If he hasn’t played in Champions League is a coincidence. When you see the stats, it’s weird, because he played 77’. It’s very little, it’s true. But we have a lot of important games and tomorrow we’ll see what happen”.

Zizou doesn’t want any confidence despite the good result obtained at the Allianz Arena: “Bayern is a very good team in all the lines. We know they can harm the rival but they have also flaws, like all the teams. We’ll try to play our game and prepare well the game, like the first leg. This result is not definitive, so we need to play another great game. Bayern will play a great game, we know that. It’s going to be decided in small details and we have to be ready”, Zizou commented.

The French manager highlighted the good atmosphere in the dressing room: “The most important thing it that the players have done this. They can make a difference and this is what I want. It’s very important that everybody feels loved. The players believe in me and I think we all want to arrive to the same goals. It’s the DNA of the club”.

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Preview

Los Blancos are very optimistic for this game after the great result obtained in Munich. Real Madrid suffered in the first half but they could close the tie in the second half, when Neuer saved their team. Just three days later, Zidane’s side got a victory at Gijón thanks to the two goals scored by Isco. The Málaga born player should replace Bale in the line-up. All the other players had some rest against Sporting and should start the game.

Bayern Munich were shocked after the second half at the Allianz. They were favourites to go through, but now they need a great comeback to set a foot in the semifinals. Carlo Ancelotti hopes that Lewandowski could start the game after missing the first leg with a problem in the shoulder. Javi Martínez won’t travel to Madrid because he’s suspended, so Hummels and Boateng should be the full-back pair.

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Prediction

Bayern Múnich haven’t won three out of the last four games, including a draw in their last match in Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen. Los Blancos had the opportunity to ‘kill’ the tie at Múnich, but now they’ll suffer at Santiago Bernbéu stadium. However, they showed one week ago that they have more quality than their rivals, so we expect Real Madrid to beat Bayern.

In their last meeting at Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid won (1-0) thanks to a goal scored by Karim Benzema in 2014 with Carlo Ancelotti on the bench. Before, they also met in 2012, and Real Madrid won that game (2-1) but they were kicked out of the competition in the penalty shoot-out.

In Real Madrid there have always been very good strikers during their history. We are going to highlight who were the best Real Madrid top scorers from Di Stefano until the present, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alfredo Di Stéfano (1953-1963): The Hispano-Argenitne has been one of the best players in Real Madrid’s history. Before his signing with Los Blancos, Real Madrid didn’t win any La Liga during 20 years and with his arrival to the capital of Spain, he won 8 of 10 leagues. We must also add that the “Saeta Rubia” was one of the key players to win 5 European Cup (the current Champions League). He scored 308 goals in his career with Los Blancos playing during 11 seasons.

Ferenc Puskas (1958-1966): The Hungarian striker Puskas broke all the goal scoring records, earning his nickname of “Pancho” or “Cañoncito”. He was one of the greatest strikers in history, being one of the best left-footed players in Real Madrid. He signed with Los Blancos at the age of 31 from Honved Budapest. His arrival was a complete surprise to the Spanish fans. They thought that this old and overweighted player was not going to triumph in a big team like Real Madrid, but suddenly they discovered they were mistaken. He won 3 European Cups, 5 leagues, 1 Spanish cup and he was four times La Liga’s top scorer.

Hugo Sánchez (1985-1991): The Mexican is considered the best player of the CONCACAF in the 20th century. Hugo Sánchez was awarded with the top scorer trophy in five times during the 80’s decade. In the season 1989-1990 he scored an amount of 38 goals (first touch). We will remember him because of his great ability doing bicycle shots. In total he added 208 goals in 7 season with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo Luiz Nazário de Lima (2002-2006): He signed for Real Madrid from Inter Milán. Despite his brilliant performance with Barcelona and Inter, many Real Madrid supporters doubted that the Brazilian star could return to his level after several important injuries, and Ronaldo didn’t disappoint. He was a very good striker who had amazing skills scoring 104 goals in the five seasons he played at Madrid. Nowadays many young people say that he has been the best striker they have ever seen.
