Real Madrid achieved yesterday a great victory in their visit to Ipurua against Eibar. Los Blancos played with an unusual starting 11 (without Marcelo, Kroos, Carvajal, Cristiano and Bale) and the result was very positive. Real Madrid were superior than Eibar in every aspect, they pressured more than the Basque team, they played a better football and they even ran more than their opponents. The team managed by Zinedine Zidane ran a total of 102.36km, while Eibar ran 99.31km. The difference of 3km is one of the keys why Los Blancos achieved the victory in a very tough stadium as Ipurua.

There was four Real Madrid players who exceeded the 10km at Ipurua, Marco Asensio, Casemiro, Nacho and Lucas Vázquez. Once again Lucas was the player who ran more in all the pitch with 11.63km. Whenever the Galician wing plays he runs a lot showing his professionalism despite he is not in the usual starting 11 when Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo are available.

In the other side, only Rubén Peña, Sergi Enrich and Gonazlo Escalante ran more than 10km. This bothered Mendilibar (Eibar’s manager) because he said in the press conference:” The problem is that we ran less than Madrid. And if you do not run more than Real Madrid they will win you easily.”, Eibar’s manager said about yesterday’s match.

Real Madrid played probably the best first half in all the season, being from the beginning very intensive because they wanted to improve the image offered in the last regular season games. If Los Blancos play with this intensity in all the matches it will be very difficult to beat them. Despite having many changes in the line-up, the players who started from the beginning played really good, showing that they can be in Zidane’s usual line-up in the future importante matches.

Zinedine Zidane spoke at press conference after the Los Blancos victory against Eibat at Ipurua. Real Madrid played maybe their best first half in all the season, without several important players as Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo, Kroos and Bale. Real Madrid played probably their best first half in all the season and this is what the French manager thinks about today’s game:”During the season there are moments that you have to suffer, sometimes you don’t play a good match, but this is normal in a very difficult league as La Liga. Today we played a very complete game from the beginning, with intensity. We did several changes in the line-up and the players who entered did a great game. Eibar are a very good team that are doing a good season”, Zidane said about the today’s match.

Benzema played without Bale and Cristiano in the attack and the French striker was one of the best players on the pitch, after being several weeks without scoring in the regular season:” I’m very happy with Benzema’s game. He played a very complete match scoring two goals. I’m glad with the game he has done”,Zidane affirmed.

Asensio started from the beginning after several weeks and he played a very good match scoring a brilliant goal:” He played a great game. It’s difficult when you don’t habitually play and today he was one of the best players in the team. I think he is very happy with his goal and with the match he played today”, Zidane said about the good match of Marco Asensio.

Eibar supporters applauded Modric when he left the pitch in the second half and this is what Zinedine Zidane thinks about the Croatian player: “It’s not normal when the opponent supporters applaud to a player of your team. Luka is a very important player for us. He is our guide, he knows when to slow down the match or accelerate it”, the French manager said.

Eibar v Real Madrid

Real Madrid won at Ipurua 1-4 in the 26th week of the regular season against Eibar in a very tough stadium where three teams were able to win during the current season. Zinedine Zidane did eight changes in the line-up regarding the last match against Las Palmas, thinking in next week Champions League match against Napoli. Real Madrid played with James, Lucas and Benzema in the attack, and with Danilo in the right back instead Carvajal.

Real Madrid played a very complete first half and they went to the dressing room scoring three goals against a good defensive team as Eibar.

Los Blancos started the second half defending Eibar’s attacks and trying to find a counterattack to score another one. In the 60th minute Asensio could score the fourth goal with a wonderful counterattack guided by James, Benzema and finished by the Majorcan. Zinedine Zidane decided to substitute Karim Benzema in the 64th minute and Mariano entered after being several weeks without playing. Eibar scored their first goal in the 71st minute form a fortuitous shot of Rubén Peña. The French manager changed James and Modric by Kovacic and Isco with the goal of having the possession because Eibar started to create danger. Finally the match finished and Los Blancos could win playing a very complete match form the beginning until the end.

Real Madrid achieved a great victory playing probably the best first half in all the season with several changes in the line up, highlighting Cristiano Marcelo, Kroos and Gareth Bale absences. We can say that the MVP of the match was Karim Benzema who scored two goals and being very involved in the game.

Zinedine Zidane spoke in press conference before travelling to the Basque Country to face Eibar, a young team who is impressing in Spain with their good results and good way of playing. The manager expects a tough game and he doesn’t want to speak about crisis after the bad results obtained recently. “The word ‘crisis’ doesn’t exist to me. Every three days we have the possibility to improve”, Zidane said in press conference.

According to the manager there are negative vibrations around Real Madrid: “Yes, there are a lot, but when we don’t do the appropriate game, this always happens in this club. Real Madrid supporters are very nervous. The team lost 5 points in the last week and it could have been even worse if Los Blancos didn’t comeback against Villarreal after losing 2-0 in the 60th minute of the game. The defeat in Valencia hurt and Los Blancos didn’t react with the draw against Las Palmas at home. Some of the players listened to the supporters complaining about their performance, including Keylor Navas.

Some months ago, no one contested Keylor Navas, who won a lot of credit with his great performances in the last season. He was one of the key pieces to lift the Champions League trophy and saved a lot of points in La Liga. But this year the situation is different. The goalkeeper is not the same after the serious injury he suffered at the end of the last season and, after the surgery in summer, he’s been committing a lot of mistakes.

Zinedine Zidane keeps with his support to the Costa Rican goalkeeper but the supporters showed their anger against Las Palmas. We could listen boos after the third goal scored by Kevin-Prince Boateng. Keylor left the goal, but he didn’t arrive to the ball. Boateng touched it first and he only had to shot to the target to widen the gap in the scoreboard.

Besides, in the first goal scored by Tana, Keylor Navas could have done more, because the ball entered close to his hands, although it was Sergio Ramos’ mistake, who played a really poor game. La Liga title is getting more and more complicated for Real Madrid. After drawing against Las Palmas, it’s quite evident that Real Madrid are not in their best moment and Zidane analyzed the situation after the game in press conference: “We’re not like we wanted. We should have killed off the game, score the second or the third, but we let the rival alive. If you let the rival with the ball the put you in trouble. But we cannot be crazy because we did some good things”, Zidane said.

The manager gave some clues about the game: “We have to analyze again and think what we need to change. And we are going to change it. We made a great effort to draw the game. We have character, we have good things, but we should be smarter, especially in the first half”.

Zizou didn’t want to speak about the referees: “As usual, I’m not going to speak about the referees. We don’t have to look for excuses with that, I look into the things we can improve and I think we can do better. We’re not happy about what we are doing. There are moments in the season like that, three or four games… but we cannot look for excuses with the referee”.

Fernández Borbalán didn’t concede three goals to Morata for offside and he sent off Gareth Bale: “He asked for forgiveness. He is not happy with the red card, but that’s it. This can happen, it’s a fact of the game and we can’t change it. But with 10 players we drew. We have to change our minds”.

Zidane also spoke about the penalty committed by Sergio Ramos: “We can’t change them, not the penalty by Sergio nor the red card to Bale, but we have to think positive. We can be angry for the first half but the effort in the second half was enormous.We are on the same boat and I’m the person in charge”, the manager explained.

The French manager also spoke about the feeling of losing La Liga: “Not at all. I already said that this was going to be complicated. We are not the leaders anymore but La Liga title race is opened. The goal is reached at the end, not now. For the good, we have to stay positive”.
