2002, Real Madrid beat Feyenoord in Monaco to win the first European Supercup of their history after failing to win the title in 1998 and 2000. 2012, Los Blancos win again the Supercup against Sevilla in Cardiff thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s two goals.

This is the history of Real Madrid in the European Supercup and the club will try to win the third title in Rosenborg’s house, Trondheim, against La Liga rivals, Sevilla. The Andalusian team will have the opportunity to take revenge for the title lost only two years ago.

However, Sevilla have changed a lot in just two years. Only four players of the squad were present in the Millenium Stadium and even the coach who brought success to Sevilla, Unai Emery, is gone to look more more ambitious projects at PSG.

Jorge Sampaoli is Sevilla’s new coach and, so far, the team has won every single game in the pre-season. Despite the good results, this year will be tough for Sevilla after losing Unai Emery, Kevin Gameiro, Krychowiak, Éver Banega or Coke, all important players in the squad.

On the other hand, Real Madrid squad for today’s clash will be very similar to the one showed just few months ago. Álvaro Morata is the only new face in a quite summer for Chamartín side. The forward is expected to start because Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have been ruled out of the game and Karim Benzema is a major doubt after missing all three games this summer.

The big news will be in the goal because Keylor Navas is also missing the game, so Kiko Casilla will defend Real Madrid’s goal. Toni Kroos, Pepe and Fabio Coentrao are also missing the game.

Los Blancos are the big favourites for the game according to the bookmakers, but Sevilla is always a tough team and last year the Andalusian team beat (3-2) Real Madrid at Sánchez Pizjuán.

Real Madrid possible XI: Casilla; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro; James Rodriguez, Isco; Morata and Benzema
Sevilla
Sevilla possible XI: Rico; Mariano; Pareja; Carriço; Escudero; Kranevitter; N’Zonzi; Franco Vázquez, Sarabia, Vietto; Kono

Los Blancos have a big opportunity on Tuesday to start the season in the best way possible. Real Madrid will try to win their third European Supercup after the titles in 2002 and 2014. Actually, the rivals in Norway will be the last team beaten in this competition: Sevilla FC.

Both La Liga teams know each other very well and Los Blancos have a lot of reasons to stay positive ahead of the game. They beat Sevilla two years ago thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s two goals and last year the Andalusian team was thrashed 4-0 at Bernabéu Stadium. The statistics, then, favour Real Madrid.

Besides, Madrid side is optimistic after a good pre-season tour around the United States of America. Los Blancos won two games -against Chelsea and Bayern Munich- and lost one game against PSG.

Zidane will have to make a lot of changes in the starting eleven as a result of different injuries. Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale are not fit to play in Norway and both aren’t travelling to Trondheim. Cristiano Ronaldo, Keylor Navas, Pepe and Coentrao also miss the game. Luckily, Benzema is back again to the team and he’s expected to play.

Having all this in mind, Real Madrid is clearly favourite to win the first title of the season. According to the bookmakers, Los Blancos have also the best odds to bring the title home. In Betfair, for instance, you can back Real Madrid to win in 90 minutes with 10/11 odds. Sevilla’s triumph is paid 7/2 whereas the draw pays 13/5.

Two years ago, Carlo Ancelotti side defeated Sevilla in Cardiff with a 2-0 result. If Zidane’s team repeats the result, you can bet with 10/1 odds. If you think Casilla will keep his goal untouched and Real Madrid will win the game, there is a special market in Betfair with 13/5 odds.

Real Madrid have confirmed in a statement Jesé’s transfer to PSG. The Spanish player gave this morning his first press conference as a PSG footballer and he said he expects to have more minutes in France to show his quality.

Jesé transfer fee is €25M, the highest transfer in the history of Real Madrid for a youngster grown in La Fábrica (‘The Factory’). Morata’s transfer to Juventus two years ago -€22M- had the club record until today.

Real Madrid wanted to thank Jesé “this years of dedication and professionalism from the young team to the first team and wishes luck in his new stage”, said the club in a statement.

Some hours later, Jesé appeared in a press conference in Paris and he wanted to have a few words for his former club: “After 10 years at Real Madrid I needed a change and play for a club where I could develope as a player. Here I’ll have more minutes and opportunities to show my skills”.

Jesé also spoke about his former coach and said that Zidane told him it will be very difficult to play because there were a lot of competitors. “I wish the best [to Real Madrid] but not in Europe, where I want to win all the games with my new team”.

PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaif wanted to great Jesé in his first day of work in his new team. “In the last season, Jesé has been one of the most promising players at Real Madrid and in the Spanish football. After having contact with some great forwards, he became a very strong option for PSG”, the president said.
Jesé left the club after a difficult season where he didn’t meet Zidane’s expectation. In the memory of the supporters, he left a very important goal scored in Rome in the Last 16 first leg.

Bad news for Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane is going to pick up a very young and new starting eleven for the first big game of the season due to the long list of injuries. Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale will also miss the European Supercup clash against Sevilla on Tuesday (19.45 UK time).

Zinedine Zidane’s list has been released on Monday morning before the squad took a plane to Norway to play this big game. The big surprise was that both Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale will miss the game. At least, the French coach has included Karim Benzema in the list despite of the French striker hasn’t played one game in the pre-season tour.

The Real Madrid manager is going to have a lot of problems to create a starting eleven because a lot of players are not available for the game. Apart from Kroos and Bale, Keylor Navas, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe or Fabio Coentrao won’t be in Norway on Tuesday.

This year, the European Supercup is held very early in the calendar and the players haven’t had the time to rest after a busy season with the final of the Champions League and the Euro in France.

Real Madrid played only three games in the pre-season tour in the United States to prepare the game and the squad arrived on Thursday to Madrid to prepare this big clash. The club is optimistic after these games, where Real Madrid beat Chelsea and Bayern Munich and lost against PSG.

With all these players ruled out, Luca Zidane and Mariano have been included in the list to travel to Trondheim, in Norway.

The full squad for the game is:

Goalkeepers: Casilla, Yáñez and Luca;
Defenders: Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Nacho, Danilo and Marcelo
Midfielder: James, Casemiro, Kovacic, Modric, Isco, Asensio, M. Llorente;
Strikers: Benzema, Lucas Vázquez, Morata and Mariano.

Real Madrid’s interest in David Alaba seems fairly obvious but dig a little deeper and it’s clear that the Bayern Munich star could be a big hit at the Bernabeu. The Swiss sensation can play in a multitude of positions and is equally proficient in each of them. He has athleticism, physical presence and good technique on the ball. In short, he’s a ‘Real Madrid’ player.

Born in Vienna, he began his career with SV Aspern and was quickly drafted into the youth setup at FK Austria Wien. Despite never making a first team appearance, he was spotted by Bayern Munich’s talent scouts and moved to the German side in 2008. A year later he became the youngest ever player to represent the Austrian national team at just 17. In 2010 he made his first team debut for Bayern, setting up Franck Ribery within a minute of coming off the bench. After a loan spell at TSG Hoffenheim in 2011, he was ever-present in the first team squad at the Allianz Arena.

Despite being just 24 years of age, Alaba has already collected 10 major honours in his career. He has helped Bayern to win 5 BundesLiga titles, 4 German Cups and the Champions League. His winning mentality would undoubtedly be an asset to Real Madrid and there are no signs that he has reached the ceiling of his potential.

Alaba is ostensibly a defender but can be utilised in a number of roles. He can be deployed in central midfield, central defence, right and left wing, or even at left-back. He is comfortable at defending but has the ability to charge forward into space and cause opposing teams real problems. His passing is also brilliant both at short and long range and he has a penchant for switching the play to make chances for his teammates. As if all this wasn’t enough, he is also a good free-kick taker and has deputised for Arjen Robben on numerous occasions.

Alaba combines technique, intelligence and power in a way that only a handful of other players are capable of. He is energetic, enthusiastic and a proven winner, so the prospect of seeing him in a Real Madrid shirt is mouth watering to say the least.

Real Madrid is looking into the transfer market but the club is still hesitating to make a big move this summer. So far, Los Blancos have only signed Álvaro Morata from Juventus after using the re-buy clause the club had about the Spanish striker.

However, Real Madrid are still working to improve the squad looking ahead of the new season. Zinedine Zidane wants to have more players in the midfield and the club is working to sign a good reinforce for this position.

Paul Pogba is about to sign with Manchester United and N’Golo Kanté, former Leicester player, signed some days ago for Chelsea. With these options gone, the club is still looking to the Premier League to look for a good replacement for Casemiro as a stopper.

Real Madrid had a close eye on Sissoko, the Newcastle midifielder that played really good for France in the Euro. He doesn’t want to play in the Championship but the Northeast England club wants at least £35M.

According the the Evening Standard, Florentino Pérez wants to sign the French international and he is willing to pay this big amount of money. However, Zidane prefers Chelsea player Nemanja Matic, whose transfer fee should be similar to the French one.

Kante’s arrival to Stamford Bridge makes Matic position tough. He was a key player last season for the Blues and played 33 games in the Premier League scoring two goals in a very difficult season for the South West London team. His position is covered already in the team and he might be looking for a new team, according to the media in the UK.

Sissoko or Matic. It doesn’t matter but the true thing is that the team needs another defensive midfielder. With Kroos, Modric, James Rodríguez or Isco, the offensive position is already covered but only Casemiro can play in the stopper position. Zidane tried last season to play without a stopper but he realized soon that Casemiro was a key player in his squad.

Champions of Europe Real Madrid collide with Spanish opposition when they face Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup. The match is scheduled to take place at Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim, Norway on Tuesday 9th August. It promises to be a thrilling spectacle as the two La Liga sides go head to head, so let’s get in the mood with some interesting stats.

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane was himself a UEFA Super Cup winner for Los Blancos, helping the club to a 3-1 success over Feyenoord in Monaco back in 2002. If he tastes success on Tuesday then he will become the fifth person to lift the trophy as a player and manager, following in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone and Luis Enrique.

That win was followed by a 2-0 victory over Tuesday’s opponents in this competition in Cardiff 2 years ago, thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo brace. Prior to that encounter, Real Madrid had comfortably beaten Sevilla on their only other European meeting. Alfredo Di Stéfano scored 4 in an 8-0 first leg rout during the 1957/58 European Champions Clubs’ Cup quarter-final, which still stands as a record win in the last eight to this day.

Facing Spanish opposition in continental competition certainly hasn’t fazed Real Madrid who have an impressive record against their Iberian counterparts. They defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid in the 2014 and 2016 UEFA Champions League finals. Real also prevailed in the first UEFA Champions League final between clubs representing the same nation, downing Valencia 3-0 at the Stade de France in 2000. Overall, Real Madrid have won ten of their 19 games against Spanish teams in Europe, drawing five and losing only four.

Karim Benzema is still injured and he is a major doubt for the European Supercup to be played next Tuesday against Sevilla in Norway. The French player hasn’t played any minute in the pre-season tour around the United States and he is still working on his own.

Benzema’s appearance in the European Supercup is still one of the doubts that Zidane has ahead of the first major game of the season. The medical staff is worried about Benzema’s performance as he has missed all three games against Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich in the States.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the club is worried about the situation because Benzema has been injured a lot recently and they cannot find exactly what is happening to him. The French forward has problems in the back and this is why they are trying to recover him as soon as possible.

Injuries are nothing new to Benzema, unfortunately. Last year, the forward missed 15 games for injury. Despite this problems, last season was the best for Benzema in these years in Real Madrid and the club expects that he can recover and play at his level.

This situation is a major blow for Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale didn’t have many holidays due to the Eurocup and their good performance. However, Benzema didn’t play the tournament and the staff thought that they could be one of the best men at the beginning of the season.

Benzema needs to recover soon because this year he has more competitors than ever. With Jesé out of the club, Álvaro Morata can be a threat for the French player, especially if the Spaniard shows a similar level as in the Euro. Besides, Asensio has proved himself in the pre-season game that he can also play as a second forward.

It’s obvious that any side would miss the talent of Cristiano Ronaldo but Real Madrid are expected to make do without him when they face fellow La Liga side Sevilla in Norway. The UEFA Super Cup is widely considered as a curtain raiser for the domestic season across Europe and Los Blancos will be keen to put on a show. However, without their talisman, can they get the win?

After all, it was Ronaldo that got both goals in a 2-0 victory when these sides met in Cardiff 2 years ago following La Decima. Real’s biggest star is something of a specialist against Sevilla too, having scored a record 22 times against them, more than any other club he has faced in his career. Those amazing stats are from just 15 games against Los Rojiblancos, including five hat-tricks.

Ronaldo remains sidelined with a knee injury sustained when on international duty following a robust Dimitri Payet challenge in the Euro 2016 final. Karim Benzema is also struggling for fitness, so the mantle is passed to Gareth Bale to get the goals. However, the Welsh Wizard has not taken part in any preseason games but has been training while on extended leave following Euro 2016.

Bale currently has 58 goals from 123 club appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. He had numerous spells on the sidelines through injury last season but still managed to accumulate an impressive haul of 19 goals from just 30 games played. He was also tied with club teammate Cristiano Ronaldo on 3 goals in Euro 2016, so is considered to be in goal-scoring form. It looks as though he will be Real Madrid’s main goal threat on Tuesday night.

Everybody is very happy with Zinedine Zidane’s job. The supporters have finally found a coach that they can trust and so Florentino Pérez. The first feelings in this new season is that the team is going into the right direction after the difficult last season.

According to the Spanish media, the club is ready to double Zinedine Zidane’s salary this year. The French coach had a €2.7M deal last season and from now on Zidane will start to earn €5.5M. The board thinks that the French manager has earned his money after winning the 11th Champions League for the club back in June.

Since Zidane’s arrival, the atmosphere in the club has changed a lot. Rafael Benítez wasn’t able to have a good relationship with the players and lost the dressing room very early. As a consequence, the team was far away from Barcelona in La Liga and out of Copa del Rey.

Zidane didn’t have an easy job, but after some games, he was able to finish the season only one point behind Barcelona winning the last 12 games in a row in La Liga. Not to say that Zidane guided the team to win the 11th Champions League trophy at San Siro against city rivals Atlético de Madrid.

Despite his good performance, Zidane’s salary is still far away from the money received by Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian managed had a €7.5M deal when he trained Real Madrid. On the other side, Rafa Benítez had a several salary in his time spent at Santiago Bernabéu.

Zinedine Zidane
will start earning his new salary in this new season. His first important game is already this Tuesday, when Real Madrid will face Sevilla in the European Supercup in Norway. It’s a good chance for Zidane to win his second trophy as Real Madrid boss.
