Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has ruled out a switch back to Premier League with Chelsea.

Reports have suggested new boss Jose Mourinho wants to raid his former club for the Croatian star.

But speaking to the Sun newspaper, Modric said he has no intention of leaving the Spanish capital for a move back to London, where he previously played for Tottenham Hotspur.

Modric, who signed for Los Merengues in the summer of 2012, said: “I’m not even thinking about the possibility I could leave Madrid this summer, but there is interest from other clubs.

“Every kid who plays football dreams about playing for Real Madrid. It was the same with me.”

He added that although he intends to stay in Madrid, he will miss Mourinho’s coaching methods.

“He is a fantastic coach and I am honoured to have worked with him,” he stated.

Both Madrid daily sports newspapers emphasize Alvaro Morata’s great performance with Spanish national team in the Under-21 Eurocup.

The young Real Madrid striker scored the goal that gave La Roja a 0-1 victory over Germany, qualifying the team for the semifinals of the tournament.

While there is a lot of talk going on about the possible moves in the forward position for next year, the youngster showed that he is ready to earn a spot in Real Madrid’s squad.

“Morata brings us to the semifinals”, titles Marca. “Morata came from the bench and scored”, says As.

Marca also highlights the second part of an exclusive interview given by Florentino Perez, in which the president claims that “nobody will live obsessed with Mourinho at the club” and that “the best players in the world will keep on signing for Real”.

The Madrid daily also claims that Paris Saint Germain bosses have said that if Real Madrid wants Carlo Ancelotti they should “pick the phone and call”.

Both sports papers also highlight the controversial victory of Real Madrid basketball team over Barcelona in the first match of the final of the Spanish league, thanks to a last second fault that was denied to the Azulgrana.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said his biggest regret to date was not signing Italian forward Franceso Totti.

Perez, elected unopposed to a new four-year term, gave a wide-ranging interview to Spanish daily Marca in which he outlined his plans for Los Blancos.

Those included handing Cristiano Ronaldo a new contract and building the team around the Portuguese.

When asked what his biggest regret was, he admitted missing out on securing Totti’s signature was a big blow.

“My greatest regret? That I wasn’t able to bring champions like Patrick Vieira, Francesco Totti and Ronaldinho to Real Madrid.”

The Italian striker recently admitted he was in advanced talks to sign for Real Madrid at one stage but decided to stay with Roma.

“If I had chosen Real Madrid, I’d have won three Champions Leagues and two Ballon d’Ors on top of who knows what else.

“I would’ve had more opportunities, that is beyond doubt, but I am happy with my choices. The only regret is that we could’ve won two or three more Scudetti with Roma.”

Robert Lewandowsky could be closer to signing for Real Madrid after Borussia Dortmund’s president Hans-Joachinn Watzke has confirmed in an interview to Bild that the striker “will definitely not go to Bayern Munich in 2013”.

The Polish forward main choice was playing for Bayern, things have taken a different path. “That he told us he wants to leave a few weeks ago is legitimate, but equally legitimate is when we point out our position with the current contract”, Watzke said.

“We have communicated to the player and his advisers that we will not allow a transfer to Bayern. This is final”, he added.

Now, Lewandowsky has two options: staying at Dortmund for one more season and leaving next year, when his contract expires, or leaving to a Premier League or La Liga club.

The teams that have shown a bigger interest in signing the Polish international are Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Sources have reported that Dortmund would consider any offer from a foreign club if it is above 30 million euros. Otherwise, they would keep the player in their squad one more season.

Barcelona stars Xavi Hernandez and Gerard Pique have aimed a parting shot at former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, saying his management style and behaviour was bad for Spanish football in general.

The two players, currently away with their national side as they prepare for the Confederations Cup, said Mourinho took the intense rivalry between Los Blancos and Barcelona too far – playing it out in the press rather than on the football pitch.

Speaking to Sport newspaper, Xavi said now Mourinho has left he hopes Real Madrid adopt a philosophy seen previous to the Portuguese manager.

“We’ve won, drawn and lost, but always according to a footballing philosophy. The result is an impostor; it goes beyond winning and losing. Their style of play annoyed me to see them play like that as they had an idea and a concept before. Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos – they were incredible,” he stated.

Pique added: “Mourinho took this rivalry into press conferences, but football is played on the pitch and you must try to win with the weapons you have.

“This sort of rivalry through the press is something that had never been seen before in Spain. He wanted to take over the press.”

Real Madrid president has admitted he would love to see club legend Zinedine Zidane manage the club one day – but now is too soon.

Los Blancos are searching for a new boss following the departure of Jose Mourinho, with PSG manager Carlo Ancelotto the red-hot favourite for the job.

Speaking to Spanish daily Marca, Perez said Zidane would one day like to go into management but is currently looking for a role as a coach.

“He’s really enthusiastic about becoming a manager and I would love him to (become manager), but I think he wants to work as a coach first,” he stated.

He added the two of them will sit down in the coming weeks to look at possibilities for the Frenchman to be incorporated into the new management set-up to improve his coaching experience.

The main focus of the Madrid press this morning in the ongoing saga over Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.

Marca’s front page quotes club president Florentino Perez in the headline. “Cristiano will continue,” he confidently claims. He adds “he wants to stay, and I want him to stay”.

Perez also states he sees the 28-year-old as the new Alfredo di Stefano and the team will be built around him.

Meanwhile, AS carries quotes from the player about his future. The forward, who is currently away on international duty with Portugal, denies talks have taken place over a new deal.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone yet. The most important thing now is the national team,” he stated.

Elsewhere, the two sports papers have plenty of coverage of Spain’s 2-1 win over Haiti. AS focuses on Iker Casillas’ return to the starting line up after 136 days out, and claims that was the only highlight of the match.

Marca runs a story in Gonzalo Higuain and say Los Blancos’ directors have called a summit with the player’s representatives to sort out his future.

Napoli forward Edison Cavani is the latest name to be linked with Real Madrid as Los Blancos look to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.

According to Madrid-based daily Marca, the Santiago Bernabeu club is considering making an offer for the forward.

While Napoli, now under the charge of Rafa Benitez, are looking for a figure of around 63 million euros, Los Blancos officials believe they could get the figure lower by offering a number of unwanted players in exchange.

The Uruguayan scored 29 goals for his side this year as he helped them secure a second place finish in Seria A. In his three years with Napoli he has scored a total of 104 goals.

Should Los Merengues decide to follow up on their interest by making an offer, they face competition from Chelsea, now managed by Jose Mourinho, and Manchester City.

Former Real Madrid manager John Toshack believes Gareth Bale is a better player than Neymar.

The Spurs winger has been heavily linked with a move to Los Blancos this summer following an outstanding season in north London in which he scored 26 goals in all competitions.

Brazilian Neymar has recently put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Barcelona, completing his transfer from Santos.

Speaking to Punto Pelota, Toshack said Bale is the ready-made article while Neymar will have to adapt to the pace and style of European football.

“For me, Gareth is better than Neymar, because he is playing in a very competitive league,” he said.

And he added: “With Neymar we will have to wait and see. If there is someone who is worth 100 million euros, then it is Bale.”
