Carlo Ancelotti showed his satisfaction at Real Madrid’s emphatic win over Deportivo La Coruna, but confessed the team needs to improve in defense and become more consistent.
“We showed all the quality we have going forward. We have a phenomenon and a lot of other top quality players. They combined together really well and that was what stood out. However, we have to be even more consistent and improve the balance in the side,” the Italian stated.
Los Blancos boss praised his side’s performance in attack after scoring eight goals: “We played with a lot of intensity and tried to do things well throughout the game. We weren’t always able to pull it off, but we killed the match off thanks to our ability to finish off our chances up front. After suffering two defeats we have scored 13 goals in two games. That’s a sign that we have reacted well.”
When asked about the possibility of narrowing the gap with Barcelona in the table, Ancelotti claimed he’s not “thinking about that” at the moment. “We are focused on fixing the problems we have and concentrating on what we’re doing well. The season is long and making up for lost points is not a problem at the moment,” he added.
Ancelotti also praised the players who came on from the bench: “Illarramendi gave us balance, Isco, quality; and Chicharito, depth. I took Benzema off to bring on another midfielder and avoid any problems because at that stage of the game we didn’t have control of the ball.”
